Yes, I’m that twin mum!

December 4, 2014

Yup, that’s me!

Sitting on the floor with my children whilst you sit on the edge watching your children from afar.

I can see you, casting your disapproving glances in my direction.
My hair’s wet, because rather than spend the time drying and styling it, I sat with my children and read to them, watched TV with them and talked with them.
I’m sorry if my wet hair, dirty jeans and tattooed appearance offends you, but your attitude offends me.

Whilst you sit and natter drinking your skinny latte and gossiping, I’m spending time playing with my children.

Making sure they’re behaving and having fun, whilst protecting them from your child who thinks it’s ok to throw and scream because no-one is there to tell them not to.

Yes, I’m that twin mum.

My jeans have food on them from the breakfast frenzy that ensued first thing this morning.

Not to mention when muddy shoes landed on my jeans as I buckled two tiny people into their car seats, but I didn’t have time to change.
Yes, I’m that twin mum sitting on her own.

A friendly hello would be nice now and then.

Maybe even a conversation, but I guess that’s just asking for too much.
Despite appearances we’re all the same underneath.
I’d like a friend.

To say hello to.

To talk to and spend time with whilst our children play together.

I think I may be asking for too much.
I’m not part of your ‘parent’ group.

I like wearing jeans and a baggy jumper.

It’s comfy when I sit and play with my children.
Maybe my face just doesn’t fit in with your crowd?

More make-up? More preening would that help?
Yes, I’m that twin mum.

The one who turns up every week and sits with her children on the floor.
Dirty jeans, wet hair.
But, underneath we’re all the same.

Aw I'd love to hang out with you and the girls! I never dry my hair, I regularly have milk, dribble or snot on my shoulder and I live in jeans! I've been to some groups like this too, such a horrible cliquey attitude xx

I know the exact same feeling. All the moms with one tiny baby who does nothing sneering as one child is running around as you physically can't be in 2 places at once. People have no idea what it's like to have twins – they think it's just 2 of the same child – it's really not. It's hard to ever be able to sit and talk to anyone too I've found to be able to make friends as you're constantly watching two little people. It's hard. And lonely x

Emily and Beth, come and visit Rutland in the spring/summer! I have a big garden with ducks and chickens for the girls to chase and Toby to watch and we can have a lovely time!xx

That's exactly it Beth! We can't keep watch on them as closely as one mum can keep watch on her one baby. I never seem to be able to sit and chat. I keep telling myself when they start school I'll make some mummy friends, but I'm not holding my breath! Hannah, I have no idea where Rutland is, but that sounds like a plan! xx

Not a twin mummy but sound like a similar Mummy. I took Osian to baby club when he was old enough to play because he seemed to enjoy it, but I hated it. I was like you and the only one sat on the floor, while everyone gossiped around me, nobody ever said a word to me. It would be nice to be acknowledged but I felt like I was in the right place sat on the floor with my baby. Xxx

It's not nice is it. I do feel invisible sometimes. I try to downplay it, but it would be nice to have someone talk to me and form a lasting friendship xx

Not a twin mum, but as soon as people know I have 4 kids they look at me like I've got 4 heads as well! It can be hard not to be part of the clique, it's tempting to blow them a big raspberry! x

I so relate to this; dirty jeans, wet hair, whichever top is clean. I never joined one of those mummy cliques; not enough make up!
