I first heard of Mark Warner when I went to my first ever blogging conference this year – Britmums. I talked to some of the people at the Mark Warner stand and even won one some chocolate in one of their competitions!
They were friendly and helpful and I learnt a lot about what they had to offer families who wanted a child friendly holiday.
Mark Warner are looking to work with five bloggers in 2015 and I really, really, really want to be one of those five bloggers!
To be in with a chance of being picked Mark Warner have asked potential hopefuls to write about their perfect family holiday.
So here goes!
We’re no strangers to holidays in our family.
I used to go on a family holiday every year with my parents when I was a child and I hope to continue this ‘tradition’ with my own family.
I always see the start of a new family as the start of some new family traditions. As well as carrying on with existing traditions that is!
My family holidays were always abroad, but we also had the odd caravan holiday in the UK too which was just as fun as the ones abroad.
A few years after meeting my now husband we moved in together and went on our first holiday as a couple together.
Rome.
The city of romance!
It was wonderful! The ice cream, the sun, the culture, the people, the language – we loved every minute of it!
We’ve been to Prague, Marrakesh and also Valencia.
Mainly city breaks as we just love exploring new places and taking in the local culture.
We would do everything as cheap as possible and that meant booking our hotel and flights separately. When we arrived at our destination we would either jump on a bus, train or walk to our hotel. It was a great way to explore the city!
The thing is though now that we have children, city breaks are a thing of the past!
I mean toddlers aren’t really interested in going to the Colosseum or the Pantheon!
They’re much more interested in building sandcastles and getting buried in the sand…
They also love running on the sand…
Eating ice lollies…
Splashing and relaxing in the pool…
Making a mess…
Playing in the park…
With this in mind our perfect family holiday has changed from romantic city breaks for two and we’re now looking at a holiday that can entertain the whole family.
That means family friendly accommodation, child friendly activities and safe swimming pools.
When I talk about family friendly accommodation I’m talking about a room that has enough space for our twins to wander around in. I’m not expecting a mansion, just a little breathing space!
A small space where they can sit and play with their toys, read their books or do some drawing whilst mummy and daddy get ready. It would be even better if that space was outdoors as well as indoors!
Opening up your hotel room doors to a garden or patio area would be fantastic!
Sound proof rooms is also quite important too or notices asking guests to keep noise to a minimum.
After all sleeping away from home can sometimes be quite scary for young children, so keeping unfamiliar noises down to a minimum would help. Plus a good night’s sleep means more energy to face the following days fun!
Our perfect family holiday would also include lots of daytime activities in the resort itself. This could be pretty much anything from a show to craft tables or a park or ‘learn to dance/play a sport’ classes.
We wouldn’t want to confine ourselves to our resort for the whole duration of the holiday though so being near to some local amenities such as a beach, local attractions and shopping/eating areas would be great too!
On the days that we just want to relax, a swimming pool would be a welcome retreat, especially on a hot day. Having a children’s pool with some water activities and slides would be lots of fun for our twins – and us too!
We’ve been taking our girls swimming once a week for quite a while now and it’s lovely to see their confidence increasing week on week!
After all the fun of the day’s activities it’d be lovely to have a few choices of where to eat in the resort. Children’s menus with plenty of choice and of course some yummy food for mummy and daddy too!
When it comes to our perfect family holiday, we’re a pretty laid back family and tend to just go with the flow. As long as we’ve got somewhere nice and clean to sleep, some activities to keep the children entertained and plenty of places to visit nearby we’re a happy bunch!
So that’s us! A family of four. Mummy, Daddy and our twins who will be three in February. Wish us luck! We’ll be keeping our fingers firmly crossed!
