Top tips to help teach children the time
1. Encourage children from an early age to count. Counting will help children to understand the concept of time such as seconds and minutes. When your child can count to 60, it’s a good time to start exploring time in more detail
2. Talk to your children about the time. Explain to them when things will happen. For example: “At one o’clock we’re going to the park” or “We’ll go to the park in ten minutes”
3. Invest in a child friendly watch. The Watch Hut is a good place to start looking. Ensure the watch face is clear and the numbers are easy to read
4. Teaching your children their times tables can also help. For example the five and 10 times tables can help children to understand minutes. (In ten minutes etc)
5. You can buy great wooden clock puzzles for children, which can be used to introduce time to them from an early age
6. Buy a big clock that has no front to it. You can ask your child to move the clock hands around to show different times. This is also a great way for you to show your child the minute and hour hands
7. Make a clock using a paper plate and ask your child to write the numbers on and then draw on the hands
8. Buy books about teaching the time and books that help to explain the concept of time
9. When your child has a fairly good understanding of time, you can draw some clocks on paper and ask your child what time is on the clock you have drawn
10. Create a timetable that your child can use to write down important times. Snack time, nap time, school time, tea time, time to brush their teeth etc. Display it near a clock

What great ideas for teaching the time. My youngest knows numbers now so I may just try making clock faces for him.

Thanks pinkoddy. We have a wooden clock puzzle that is great. Although our twins are a bit young, it's a good way to introduce it to them, plus we have a big clock in our kitchen!

Great ideas Emily! Xavier is unable to tell the time still but keeps asking for a watch! xx
