Learning through play
It’s great to be a kid!
I sometimes wish I could go back to my childhood just so I could climb a tree, jump in a muddy puddle and run around the garden dressed as an alien!
Of course if I attempt to do any of those things now my neighbours would think all sorts of me!
Our twins amaze me everyday.
They’re two years old and they learn new things so quickly.
I often wonder where they pick up certain phrases or learn do new things. Then I realise it’s by watching me and their Daddy!
They love helping us to wash clothes.
They’ll go into their nursery and bring their laundry basket into the kitchen together.
One by one they’ll empty the contents into the washing machine, shut the door and then help me turn the washing machine on by pressing the buttons.
Another thing they love doing is helping me load the dishwasher.
One will grab some dishwasher salt from the cupboard, whilst the other will go for a few dishwasher tablets.
We’ll put them into the dishwasher and listen to it starting up! Sometimes they’ll even imitate the sounds the dishwasher makes!
I wonder if they’ll be as keen as they are now to help with washing clothes and doing the dishes when they’re teenagers!
Probably not! I guess I should make the most of it at the moment on that basis!
Children have wonderful imaginations though.
I received a delivery the other day and I always keep the cardboard boxes so we can draw on them or make something out of them.
R and M were playing together with the box. They were opening it, putting in their toy plates and tea cups, then closing it and saying ‘beep beep’ whilst pretending to push imaginary buttons!
They were pretending that the box was the dishwasher and then they were saying ‘whoosh’ and swirling their hands around like the motion of the water!
Kids really do have the most fun don’t they! From the simplest of things too!
