Should you let your children go trick or treating?

It may have escaped your notice, but today is Halloween! Last year was the first year that my husband and I allowed our children to go trick or treating. They were five years old and it was a very spur of the moment decision. I bought some sweets in case we had any trick or treaters, and to my surprise we did. These were our first trick or treaters since our girls were born! The girls were so excited by the idea of handing out sweets to the children on our doorstep! After seeing their excitement, I decided to take… [Read More]

Spooky Spider Crafts at Pughs Garden Centre

Children holding spider crafts

Pughs Garden Centre, Radyr has become one of our favourite places to visit. We’ve been a number of times now, either just for a wander around the shops, flowers and fish, or for an event such as their Santa’s Grotto or Butterfly Ball. Today saw us return to Pughs Garden Centre for their Spooky Spiders Little Green Fingers Halloween workshop. Set in the The Woodland Lodge which is at the very back of the garden centre, the girls admired the plants, flowers and pumpkins as they made their way to the lodge. When we arrived at the lodge, we were greeted by… [Read More]

Spooky Halloween Cakes

This year is the first year that I’ve made Halloween cakes. It’s not something I’d normally do, but since our girls started school I’ve joined the team of parents that help out with events and raising funds for the school. That meant that I’ve offered my help with the Halloween party and I said I’d make some spooky cakes. I did a trial run beforehand to make sure they turned out ok and I’m pleased to say that they did so I thought I’d share them here with you! You will need For the cakes 175g caster sugar 175g sifted… [Read More]

Cool Cat Costume Review

With Halloween approaching and seeing as our girls are almost three years old, we’ll be making more of an effort to acknowledge Halloween this year. In previous years the day has gone by much the same as any other day, but we thought we’d introduce our twins to Halloween this year. In light of this when we were offered the chance to review two Cool Cat Costumes from Fancy Dress City we were happy to oblige. This cat costume is actually a an all-in-one jumpsuit with detachable tail. It also comes with a hairband which have a pair of cute cat ears… [Read More]

A Crafty Halloween

This year will be the first time that we mention Halloween to our girls. We haven’t done so in previous years because they’ve been too young to understand and get involved in with Halloween activities. We’ll make some decorations together to hang up around the house. I have some orange tissue paper I’m sure I can put to good use! We can make paper chains with spiders drawn on and add some cotton wool to make it look like cobwebs! We’ll dress up as cats, clowns or pumpkins and make pictures to put on the fridge, walls and doors. I’ve seen… [Read More]

It's Spooky Time

Image courtesy of sujinjetkasettakorn/freedigitalimages.net Halloween also known as All Hallows’ Eve is celebrated on October 31st every year. You may be wondering why it’s celebrated on this date. Well it’s because it’s the eve of the Western Christian feast of All Hallows and the day initiating the triduum of Hallowmas, the time in the liturgical year dedicated to remembering the dead, including saints (hallows), martyrs, and all the faithful departed believers. For most children, Halloween is a time to go trick-or-treating, to dress up as a pumpkin or ghost and to carve funny faces into pumpkins. These are all great activties… [Read More]

Halloween!

Image courtesy of  Salvatore Vuono/Freedigitalphotos.net It’s that time of year again where all the children in your neighbourhood will be getting exited about dressing up in something wonderfully wicked, going trick or treating and filling their bellies with as many sweets as possible! Last Halloween I didn’t dress the girls up as I thought they were still too little and we didn’t do anything for Halloween last year, mainly because we lived in a second floor flat and in the whole eight years that we lived there no-one knocked our door on Halloween! Not because we were way too scary… [Read More]
