It's Spooky Time

Halloween also known as All Hallows’ Eve is celebrated on October 31st every year. You may be wondering why it’s celebrated on this date. Well it’s because it’s the eve of the Western Christian feast of All Hallows and the day initiating the triduum of Hallowmas, the time in the liturgical year dedicated to remembering the dead, including saints (hallows), martyrs, and all the faithful departed believers.

For most children, Halloween is a time to go trick-or-treating, to dress up as a pumpkin or ghost and to carve funny faces into pumpkins. These are all great activties to keep your little one entertained on Halloween, but what if you’re child is too young to go out trick or treating?

Well, you could try having a Halloween party. You could invite some friends and family over with their children, get them all to dress up, dad included can dress up in a fancy mens costumes and you could have some spooky face painting, decorate some jack-o-lanterns, do some apple bobbing and even tell some spooky stories.

During the day you could get your little one to help you create some spooky Halloween Banners to hang up. You could paint some scary spiders or create a ghost house using cardboard boxes, cotton wool for cobwebs and scraps of cloth for ghosts.

Just think of the fun you could have! You can even create a spooky den in which to read your spooky stories. Your local supermarket will probably sell a range of cheap, own branded sheets which you can use to hang up to create your den and you can also turn this into a fun daytime activity by decorating the sheet with some fabric pens!

If you like baking, why not make some creepy cupcakes with a gooey, jam centre or even some Halloween themed cookies. You can use icing pens to draw on some spiders or witches or black cats.
