I was so excited to be able to take our girls swimming on my own last week! Not because I didn’t want my husband to come with us, but because as a mum of twins I’ve never been able to taken them on my own before.
All of my friends who have one baby enjoy weekly trips to the swimming pool whilst their husbands are at work, but because I have twins I’ve never been able to do to this. Our local leisure centre won’t allow one adult to take two children under the age of four swimming on their own.
Children have to be four and over before one adult can take two children. Otherwise there must be one adult per child.
Our leisure centre have ‘safe swim’ sessions where one adult can take two under fours, but they’re on a weekend between 12pm and 2pm which is a shame as my husband is quite often able to come with us on the weekend so it makes no difference to us having safe swim sessions on the weekend. I need to have them during the week to be able to benefit from it.
Thankfully, I found out that during this half term, every weekday between 10am and 12pm they are running safe swim sessions which is amazing as it means when my husband is at work I can take our girls swimming.
I took advantage and went along one day. It only cost us £4 and we were in the pool for almost an hour.
R and M are pretty confident in the water so I wasn’t worried at all about being on my own with them.
Thankfully the water was warm so we were able to stay a while without the girls getting cold!
The first thing the girls did was go on the slide. I held their hands as they went down then encouraged them to go down on their own without my holding hand. Once they’d done it on their own once, they wanted to go again and again!
It was wonderful to watch!
I then got them a float each which had holes in for them to put their hands in to hold on and they both swam around and around the plastic crocodile on their own!
It’s the first time they’ve confidently gone off on their own without me holding onto them!
They loved splashing about in the water and floating all by themselves!
We even found a ball so threw it back and forth for a while too!
We had so much fun and I can’t wait to go again this week!
