A Big Decision

| Our twins when they were embryos |
To perish or not to perish?
That is the very important question Twin Daddy and I have had to ask ourselves this week.
We have 7 frozen embryo’s and a number of vials of frozen sperm. We have already renewed our storage once and it’s that time of year again where we have to decide what we are going to do.
At a cost of £275 each, a total of £550 for the year it’s not cheap.
Would we like to have more children?
Yes and No!
I’m in love with the idea of having more children. The thought of holding a little newborn baby in my arms fills me with joy. A little brother or sister for R and M would be lovely.
However, would having another child take something away from R and M? What I mean is that I love spending all my time with our girls, taking them to nice places and buying them nice things, but would I still be able to do that with a newborn in tow? Would a newborn feel left out as they grow up because R and M are twins and they wouldn’t be?
So many questions to be answered. Having said that if we did decide not to have anymore children the thought of defrosting our embryo’s and letting them perish fills me with horror. Rightly or wrongly I think of those 7 embryos as our babies. I know to some people that may sound silly but look at the above picture. That’s R and M as embryos right before they were put back inside me and now, look at this picture:
Two beautiful little girls. Our beautiful little girls. Those two precious embryos turned into two precious girls.

People do say that three is difficult as there is always someone left out but then again, families are never perfect. Things will be different, yes, but they won't necessarily be worse. Remember you will have a whole life time with your children, not just the years when the youngest is a newborn.
Good luck.

Thanks hun. My husband has 3 children by his ex-wife, so has 5 children in all. I think the main thing for me is that I don't want R and M to miss out on anything, but I understand where you're coming from x

We have three children. I think you have to make a conscious effort to make sure the single child doesn't feel left out, but they love each other and I love having three. I can't advise you what to do, but if I were able to have more children, I'd go for it. A second set of twins would be awesome!
Also… Can't you donate your embryos if you decide you don't want them? Thats what my friend did.

Hi Emma! Thanks for your comment. We do have the option to donate, but the thought of someone else raising one (or more) of my children doesn't settle well with me. I'd love to donate, but personally it's not something I could do x

Wow this is such a hard and personal decision and I think I would be different for every person, personally we want to have more children, to not go through the beautiful moments of newborn to baby to toddler, talking and beyond, I feel the first time round went too quick. I think that as mothers we somehow manage to share ourselves equally among the people we love, it's just our instinct to do so and if you did have another child he/she would have two lovely older sibling to look up to and watch out for her 🙂

Hi Laura, thanks for your comment! It is a hard decision to make and I agree it does go so quickly. I think time will tell. I don't feel ready at the moment, but who knows maybe a year or two down the line I might feel differently x

It must be a very difficult decision for you.
Having read the other comments, I have to say that having 3 isn't that problematic! I was one of 3 girls & absolutely loved it. Having had 2 sisters as my friends throughout my life has been fantastic & I'm sure way better than only having 1! I also have a larger than average sized family myself & have found that children adapt quite well when a new sibling comes along. There is a period of adjustment, but I believe that having a new child adds to the family, not takes anything away & I don't believe that the other children miss out. They gain an extra friend & mothers are very good at making things fair & including everyone equally. Anyway all the best with making your decision.

Thanks Vicky. I'd love more children! I'd love to have all 7 of our embryo's implanted (not all at the same time though!). We shall see what the future holds x
