This is what we really should be teaching our young girls

As a mum of girls, I often worry about their future and think about all of the things that I’d like them to learn before they spread their wings and leave the nest. There are so many things that I wish I’d been taught when I was younger. As such I thought I’d ask some other parents, who also happen to be bloggers, what they think we should really be teaching young girls. Here’s what they said. Money Pete from Household Money Saving said: I would teach them about money – why it’s important for the future and how best… [Read More]

Well done John Lewis! Clothes for boys and girls

There has been a lot of backlash lately about the decision made by John Lewis to get rid of their boys and girls section of clothing. The decision means that all children’s clothes will simply come under the same label of ‘Boys and Girls’. Now, in today’s society it’s impossible to please everyone. You’re always going to get people who disagree with this just as much as you’ll get people who agree with this decision. It’s the people who take things to the extreme that annoy me most. The people who come out and say that their child identifies as… [Read More]

’10 Things Girls Need Most’ Book Review

As a mum of girls I try to do everything in my power to ensure that I steer them in the right direction in life. They’re only five years old, but already they’re confident, clever and knowledgable. By empowering them to make their own decisions, regardless of how small they may be, we can give our girls the confidence to achieve anything they want. I was recently sent a book called, ’10 Things Girls Need Most to grow up strong and free’ by Steve Biddulph. The main idea behind the book is to combat the ever increasing number of girls… [Read More]

Girls can like Spiderman too!

When I found out that I was having girls I was over the moon and I immediately started looking at buying various clothes and toys. I looked for the usual white baby all-in-ones and vests and obviously bought a few pink items too. Our girls are three and a half now and I love how different they are! M is quite girly. She loves wearing dresses and playing with dolls. Her favourite colour varies from pink to red and back again. She likes to dress up as a ballerina and princesses. Her favourite at the moment is Cinderella and Belle… [Read More]

Girls Night Out

I wrote a post not long ago which was a little update on the play dates I’ve been having. If you haven’t read that post you can find it here. In short the play dates have been going well. I’m so glad that we ditched play group in favour of them and I think R and M are pretty pleased about that too. Both girls have become so much more confident in playing with other children and also in leaving my side to play with them. This is a massive change as usually the girls stick to my side like… [Read More]

Is she a boy?

“Is she a boy?” That’s the question I was asked today by a boy who couldn’t have been much older than five or six. I can understand the question he asked so naively. I mean looking at R in her blue canvas pumps, blue shorts and blue t-shirt I can see how from a quick glance he may have thought her a boy, but when looking from the shoulders up at her long brown hair and feminine face there’s no mistaking that she is in fact a girl! I wasn’t offended by the boys question. I found it humorous more… [Read More]
