The Twin Bond

February 4, 2014

Our twins, R and M, will be two years old at the end of February. Aside from each other the only opportunities they get to socialise with other children is when I take them to play group on a Thursday and music group on a Friday.

To me, giving our daughters plenty of opportunity to socialise and play with or play around other children is really important. Obviously they will always have each other to play with, to cuddle with and of course to fight with!

Their bond as twins is really beautiful to see and I love watching them playing and interacting with each other, but I want them to know though that there are other children around too and that they can also play with those other children as well as each other.

Picture of M and R cuddling

R and M are not identical. They have similarities such as their cute button noses and wonderfully dark brown eyes, but when it comes to their personalities they are polar opposites!

Like all children they go through phases of different behaviours, but ultimately underneath all that lies their true personallities.

R is very loving and gets quite attached to cuddly toys and she loves her blanket. We can’t go anywhere without them!

The only opportunity we get to wash them is when she’s asleep. We have to lift her arms carefully so as not to wake her and then sneakily dognap them!

R loves to cuddle and loves kissing her toys. She likes to play independently when at home as well as with M and me and their daddy.

When we go to play group, R is confident enough to wander off and get toys, explore and she’ll happily hand toys out to other children nearby. She enjoys watching other children playing, but if a child were to take something off her, she would let them and then turn to look at me as if to say ‘Why did they take my toy?’

When it comes to food, R loves chocolate and cake. She defintely has a sweet tooth like her mummy! She eats well and enjoys all different kinds of food.

Come night time and after she’s had her milk in my arms and I’ve rocked her to sleep I’ll place her in cot. She’ll stay in her cot all night, but can wake anything from one to five times a night for me to pop her dummy back in or give her, her blanket.

M is just as loving as R and she has also formed an attachment to her blanket. M does like her toy cat, but she’s not too bothered whether she brings it every where with her or not. She does sleep with her blanket at night and at nap times.

I would say that M is more unsure of the world in comparison to R. M likes to be picked up a lot and carried. Pretty much all day if she had her way! She’s in our arms a lot and you can’t do anything without her wanting to know what you’re up to!

When we go to play group, M rarely wanders off. She likes to stay on my lap whilst I pass her toys to play with. If M sees a toy she wants she’ll gesture toward it and I’ll have to hold her hand and go with her to get it. However, if R is standing by the toy that M wants, M is happy enough to go off on her own and get it. It’s lovely how she feels safe around R.

When it comes to food, M has more of a savoury taste, but she has a brilliant appetitie.

At home, M is happy to play on her own or with R, me and daddy, but when her half sisters and brother come around or when their nan comes around, this is when M really comes to life!

M turns into quite the little extrovert and likes to show off! She’ll run around, dance, spin in circles and chatter away! It’s such a funny transformation!

I hope that when our girls are all grown up, that they’ll always be there for each other. I hope they’ll talk and see each other regulary.

I know they’ll have their moments when they’ll fall out with each other, but being a twin, sharing a womb with someone, being born minutes apart and spending most of your time with each other is a pretty incredible thing.

The Twin Bond…one that can never be broken.

Aww – the twin bond is very strong! We have just been blessed with twin nephews, so we'll be able to see it for ourselves sooner rather than later. After trying for 2 years – I think it will be the IVF route for us too – so possible out own twins a little down the road. Gorgeous post thank you xx

Thanks Sarah! One of the perks of being a twin! Although our girls have similarities, there's no mistaking them for one another! x
