Bigjigs Village Shop and Accessories Review
If you’ve been following me on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram then you’ll probably know by now that for Christmas we bought our twins the Bigjigs Village Shop, along with some of the accessories to go with it.
I’m a huge fan of Bigjigs! I love all of their products, because they’re always fantastic quality, good value for money and they’re so simple with no batteries required, which is great because it really helps toddlers to play and use their imaginations.
I thought I’d write a review of the Bigjigs Village Shop along with some of the items that we bought to go with it.
So first up the shop!
Available directly from Bigjigs for £114.99, the wooden shop is perfect for children aged 3+. Our twins are three in February and they absolutely love it!
It was a little bigger than what we had originally thought, so we had to change where we were going to put it, so it’s worth measuring up your home first to decide where you want it to go. It’s 1.39 metres high and 1 metre in width.
My husband put the shop together on Christmas Eve and it took him about an hour. He did say the instructions could have been made clearer as he had to find a picture online to figure out where the pieces go. A sticker labelled with a letter on each piece to correspond with the instructions would have been helpful.
Aside from that the shop is superb!
It’s brightly coloured and has a number of different shelves ready for it to be stocked with fresh produce and treats!
We bought some of the play food to go with it and the crates fit nicely onto the shelves. The play food is really quality and our twins love the cutting fruit!
They come with a little wooden chopping board and knife. The fruit is cut into halves and stuck together with Velcro allowing children to use the knife to ‘cut’ the fruit apart.
I really like the play food because it’s a great way of teaching the names of the different fruit and vegetables to children, plus you can talk to children about healthy eating too.
Back to the shop and it also has a chalk board on the side so that you can display opening times and special offers. It also has a clock with moveable hands – great for teaching the time and it has a handy canvas side basket inside the shop for the shopkeepers use. R and M tend to use this as a ‘bin’. When they’ve sold their food and we hand the ‘leftovers’ back they go in the basket!
We also bought the Bigjigs Shop Till to go with the shop which is another great accessory. It comes complete with paper money, wooden toy coins and a good selection of different coloured wooden cards.
The buttons on the shop are wood and it also has a slot on the side so that the cards can be swiped. Much like the Village Shop the till is brightly coloured. It has a scanner so children can enjoy ‘scanning’ items and it also has a receipt roll.
In addition to the play food and till, we also bought the Bigjigs Food Scale. R and M love using it to weight their fruit and vegetables on. The scales are great quality and help children to use their imaginations to play and be creative.
I’m only slightly disappointed with one of the items that we bought and that is the Milkman Delivery Set. It looks good and the holder that carries the milk is great. The downside though is that if the milk bottles get dropped or fall off the shop the lids can chip and fall apart. One of the lids came off completely. We managed to superglue them back on so all is not lost, but maybe a slightly better design would benefit!
Two of my favourite items are the Ice Creams and Teabags. The ice creams come with a wooden box to display them in. They’re in a range of fun designs and again they’re great quality and provide hours of imaginative play.
I bought the teabags after I bought this wooden tea set, because the tea bags fit into the tea pot. At home R and M always ask to put the tea bags into our mugs so I thought this would be great toy for them! The tea bags come in four different flavours: strawberry, orange, peppermint and cranberry. They come in a box so they’re easy to store and keep together.
Overall, we’re very pleased with the Village Shop and all of the accessories mentioned above.
