The Bully and the Shrimp Book Review

As part of the Parragon Book Buddy Scheme we recently received our second book to review, The Bully and the Shrimp.

We’ve really enjoyed reading this book. It’s all about a little boy called Noah Shrimpton, who happens to be small for his age. He moves to a new school and the class bully, Connor, starts picking on him.

Noah has no friends to support him as he’s moved away from all his old friends. He’s too scared to tell anyone that he’s been bullied so he starts to use his journal to express himself. He doodles all sorts of outlandish scenarios where he beats the bully (sometimes involving superheros or giants!).

This is a picture book so each page is filled with colourful pictures. Some of the pictures depict scenes of Noah and Conner, whilst others show pictures of Noah’s journal.

This book follows Noah as he learns to make friends and gain confidence to stand up to the bully in this contemporary tale.

This book was developed in conjunction with school teachers and child development experts. It deals with the issue of bullying in a sensitive way and is perfect for any school-aged child and their parents.

Each page has a few sentences on so it’s easy for early readers to get to grips with, but if your children aren’t yet reading the pictures help to tell the story.

I really like this book it gets children thinking about how to treat others and will hopefully get them thinking about how their actions can affect others.

At the back of the book are some great resources for those who are being bullied.

Overall, this is a great book. I was bullied in school, but I never had any books that actually addressed the issue of bullying so I really do think this book is wonderful and our girls loved it so much that they kept asking me to read it over and over again!
