Strengthening Relationships Between Friends and Family

Have you ever sat back and considered all the people you have been in touch with over your life? Deep family relationships, fleeting friendships, counter clerks you see on a regular basis or even your local barman. Faces may spring to mind of relationships past, names that dance on the tip of your tongue, all relationships that were but are now separated by time or distance.  Some relationships come easier than others but may be fleeting, while others are harder to cultivate but offer a greater bond over time. The special people who have in your life you likely spend… [Read More]

Dear Children…

Dear Children, I want to start this letter by telling you both that Mummy and Daddy love you more than words can ever express. We want you both to be happy, and in order for that to happen, we’ll always be there for you, supporting you both through good and bad times. This letter has been written with a lot of love behind it. Life can be tough. It can be cruel. It can break even the strongest of human beings. However, if we can go forward in life with a positive, can-do attitude then we truly believe that anything… [Read More]

Why making friends is scary

When you’re a child making friends comes naturally. Whether it’s in the local park, school or even doctors surgery, kids make it look easy! It’s a stress-free and pretty simple social situation for children. Not much thought goes into it, and surely that’s the way it should be? However, as we get older making friends seems harder. Add on a few years, some life experience and a good does of nervousness, and it’s a completely different ball game. Adults have a terrible habit of worrying too much. Will they like me? Will I like them? Do my clothes look ok?… [Read More]

For my Valentine

I’m not usually one to write soppy blog posts, but seeing as it’s Valentines day, I thought I’d put pen to paper, (or should that be fingers to keypad?), and see what I could come up with! I met my husband, Nigel, when I was 18, and we’ve been together ever since. 13 happy years. I wasn’t looking to meet anyone that day, but when our eyes met through the shop window I was working in as you drove past, I knew there was something there. It hasn’t been an easy journey. Many people said it wouldn’t last. After all… [Read More]

Can parents ever be friends with their children?

Before I had children I often dreamt of the times I’d spend together with my offspring. Every day would be filled with fun and laughter. I wouldn’t be one of those mums who shouted at her children. Instead I’d use a stern voice, stay in control and I’d talk to my children about their behavior. Of course in reality this isn’t always feasible, or is it? Someone that I know has a daughter who’s around the same age as my girls. (Don’t worry school mums, it’s none of you!) This person has never shouted at their daughter. Not, even, once!… [Read More]

Told You So! Arguments That Every Couple Have

It’s great being in a loving relationship. You will be able to spend as much time as possible with your best friend, and will have someone who loves and supports you. But things won’t run smoothly all the time! In fact, every couple will have its arguments and disagreements. You just need to be tolerant and meet an agreement. Wondering why couples argue so much? I’ve been thinking about this quite a bit lately and think that these are some of the most common things that cause fights. Money One of the most common arguments that all couples have… [Read More]

Controlling your children’s relationships

I recently read an article about Gordon Ramsey who was talking about how he wouldn’t be leaving all of his fortune to his children because he wanted them to earn their own money, which by the way, I admire. In the article it mentioned how Gordon is good friends with David Beckham, but that he’s told his children they’re not to date any of the Beckham’s kids. This made me think back to my own adolescence and how my parents controlled my relationships. It wasn’t necessarily friendships that were controlled, but relationships with boys. Now, I totally understand the need… [Read More]

Looking for Love over the age of 50

Divorce over the age of 50 is on the rise. That’s according to an article by The New York Times. Therefore it’s no wonder that more and more dating sites are popping up over the internet. Gone are the days of traditional courtship, where you were introduced to your friends friend in the hope of finding of love. What would normally pursue, however hasn’t changed. Maybe some dinner, a dance, perhaps a visit to the cinema or even a local place of interest. The way in which we date hasn’t changed much over the years, but the way in which… [Read More]

Blogging arguments and other conversations with my husband!

Having a husband who also blogs can be quite fun at times, but it can also be quite stressful! I’ve been blogging for four years and I absolutely love it. So much so that I’d been trying to convince my husband to start his very own blog for quite some time.  After much wearing down he finally gave it a go! I’m not sure my constant going on at him had much to do with his decision to start a blog though! He had an injury at work where he broke his wrist so he was off work for a… [Read More]
