How to Ensure Quality Dad Time

August 6, 2020

Quality time with your children is a must if you want to be present in their lives. It can be difficult for both parents to really feel like they’re getting enough time with their kids, between work, school, and other commitments. But making time to spend with your children will ensure they have special memories to treasure – plus it gives the other parent a break! If you have more than one child, you can plan to do things together as well as have one-on-one dad time with each child. If you want to make sure quality dad time always happens, check out these tips.

Be There for the Everyday

Firstly, being there for everyday stuff can be just as important as planning special things to do together. If you’re present for normal things like getting ready for school, mealtimes, homework, and bedtime, it can mean a lot more than going on a few big outings a year. By being a part of your child’s everyday life, you show that you care for them everyday. Doing things like reading together at bedtime can be an excellent way to bond. There are times when you might not be able to do these things, but you should take the opportunity to do them when you can.

Plan Special Quality Time

Sometimes you might want to plan something special to spend time with your children. It could be a day outing or a fun activity that you can try together. This is something that you might do with multiple children (if you have them), or you might spend one-on-one time with your children, making sure that they all get to have equal time with you. Having quality time together doesn’t have to be anything extraordinary. You might just take the kids on an errand or go out to eat at a fast-food restaurant.

Know Your Rights

If you’re not together with the other parent, or you’re going through a separation, it’s important to know your rights as a father. The legal rights for fathers are the same as those for mothers, but you might be concerned that you won’t get a fair deal when it comes to custody. The right representation can be crucial if you need to mount a legal case to ensure access to your children. A good solicitor can help you to get the time with your children that you deserve.

Share Your Interests

Sharing your interests with your children doesn’t just mean taking them to do things that you like. You can also spend time together by getting involved with things that they enjoy. Taking an interest in what your children like shows that you pay attention and that you care about their passions. If you do share your own interests, try to avoid making it too gendered. If you like camping, there’s no reason your daughter can’t come with you.

Form strong bonds and special memories with your children by spending quality time with them both as part of the day-to-day and on special occasions.
