Long distance relationships can prove challenging, but that doesn’t mean that they can’t work. In fact, in todays world it’s probably more likely that a long distance relationship will stand the test of time. That’s because of how far technology has come over the last few years.

As a population we’re now more in touch with one another than ever before. Gone are the days of having to write letters as our only form of communication. We can phone each other, send text messages, online messages, emails and even video chat from our mobile phones, tablets and laptops.

In addition, long distance relationships can even be healthier than non long distance relationships. For starters, you’re not always getting under each others feet. You both have time to do the things you want to do and it’s a great way to build up trust.

Whatever your reasons for finding yourself in a long distance relationship, you shouldn’t be deterred by the distance. Many long distance relationships start off as online friendships. Quite often with people meeting as a result of online dating websites. Whether you’re looking for Christian dating or other sites such as date Buckinghamshire singles, The Buckinghamshire Dating Site and Mature Buckinghamshire Dating, there’s something for everyone.

I was really intrigued to read online recently that research has shown that long distance couples tend to have the same or more satisfaction in their relationships than couples who are geographically close. In addition, they also have higher levels of dedication to their relationships and less feelings of being trapped.

In truth you probably talk more in a long distance relationship than in a relationship where you live with your spouse or partner. For example, my husband and I quite often sit in silence in the evenings. My husband will watch TV and I’ll read a book.

We do talk about important topics and about what’s going on in our lives etc, but in a long distance relationship you probably spend even more time talking to each other. Whether that be via message, email, video chat or on the phone, and that’s certainly a good thing.

Of course, being in a long distance relationship also has its challenges. For example, there’s the possible financial strain related to travelling to see each other. Trust could also be an issue, but these are things that can be worked on given time.

As with any relationship making it work takes two. A relationship should never be one-sided. You both need to play your part and pull your weight in order to make it work. It’s about compromise, trust and good communication. Working together to make things work.

When you are together it’s important to make the most of the time you have. You could even plan in advance what you’re going to do and where you’re going to go to really utilise the time you have together.
