Space Saving Bathroom Ideas

When you live in a ground floor maisonette space can be a bit of an issue, especially when you have small children wandering around.

Our home is all on one level and whilst this does have it’s good points – the lack of stairs is great because we don’t have to worry about our twins running up or even falling down them, but on the other hand space can be an issue.

When it comes to designing our home we have a lot of space saving storage options, but now that we have to decorate our bathroom we have a lot more to think about. We’ll need some bathroom furniture to store towels, toiletries and other bits and bobs we need, but our bathroom is small. Very small!

Here are some space saving ideas for designing a bathroom.

• Shower enclosures are a fantastic way to save space. Our twins are two years old and have only had baths when they were newborns. They’re used to having showers instead of baths which means we don’t have to worry about actually having a bath put in

• Storing toilet rolls, cleaning products and other items like this in under sink units is another space saving tip. It means you won’t need to have shelves on walls which can take up a lot of space, plus it saves on additional storage units
• Think about the shape of your bathroom. Traditional shaped sinks can actually take up more room than more modern rectangular shaped sinks
• Corner toilets are both practical and an ingenious way to save space. They look stylish and modern too meaning you won’t have to compromise the look of your bathroom

• This tip isn’t a space saving one, but it will definitely help to make your bathroom look bigger than it actually is. Using big tiles as oppose to small ones will help to give the appearance of a bigger bathroom
• If you do need a bath think about the size and shape. Do you need a standard sized bath? Would a small corner bath suit your needs and the space you have available better?
• If you can open your bathroom door outward, away from the bathroom the better because you’ll be able to utilise the space behind the door that’s usually lost when a door opens inwards
• Also consider a shower enclosure with sliding doors as this too will help save space
• Counter top sinks looks sleek and are again another way to save space. If you have a wall mounted toilet even better as you’ll save double the space!

These are just a few space saving ideas, but ones that can help you to make the most of the space that you have. I personally think that shower enclosures with sliding doors are great because there’s no chance of children slipping or running into an open door.
