Questions For My Mum
Since becoming a mum I have found myself thinking about my mum more and more. Don’t get me wrong, before our twins were born I would often think about my mum. I would relive memories of her in my mind. One of my favourite memories of my mum was on holiday, Spain, I think. My dad, sister, mum and me went to a water park and I always remember my mum on this one water slide. You could hear her scream from miles away and as she left the slide and splashed into the water, she stood up and the top half of her swimming costume was around her waist!!
She would kill me if she knew I was sharing this with you, but it’s too funny not to! Another fond memory I have, is when my sister and I would go to the supermarket with mum. If we lost her, we knew we could always find her just by listening out for her cough! Random, I know but if we were in one aisle and mum in another, she would cough and we would find her easily!
It’s been just over seven and a half years since my mum passed away. She had ovarian cancer and she fought it bravely. Through the chemotherapy and weight loss, being sick with blood and having cold ice packs on her head, she was always smiling.
My mum had my twin sister and I when she was 32 and since becoming a mum myself I really wish she was still here, so she could have seen me get married and meet her grand daughters. Another thing that I miss is having her around so that I could ask her questions and she could share her advice with me. In the past 8 months that our twins have been in the world, lots of questions have entered my mind that I wish I could have asked my mum. I thought I would write them here.
* Did you find it hard looking after two babies?
* Did you have much help looking after us?
* Were we as much of a pain drinking from a bottle as my two can be?!
* How old were we when we first started sleeping through the night?
* How old were we when you started weaning us and did you find the transition from bottles to solids as hard as I have found it?
* How old were we when you first took us to a baby group?
* Dad said that you went to a twins club with us. What was that like?
* I really want to be able to go further afield with the girls but I don’t feel confident enough, especially now they are having solids as well. What did you do?
* When did you find it started to get easier? (If it ever does!)
I’m sure as our girls grow up, I will have a lot more questions that I would have liked to have asked mum and I’m sure I’ll share them here with you too.
