I recently read an article online about how photos of newborns now appear on social media sites within ONE HOUR of their birth. Apparantly two-thirds of parents post pictures of baby less than 60 minutes after birth and 62% of parents post images themselves, whilst other family member post 22%. The birth of Prince George is said to have encouraged 74% of parents to post more photos, with the most popular website to post photos on is Facebook (77%) and Instagram (48%).
Whilst I am not against posting pictures of my children on social media website’s, I am very careful about which photo’s I choose to share. I am only friends with people I know on Facebook. You won’t find me adding someone I don’t know to my friends list. I find it a bit weird when I get a friend request from someone who went to the same school as me, but whom I never actually spoke to whilst in school! Yup, I won’t be adding them either!
It does amaze me at some of the pictures that people share online of their children. I have seen pictures of babies and toddlers completely naked being posted online. Who knows who can see that image and heaven forbid if it got into the wrong hands. I’d much rather have my photo’s all in one place, that isn’t online. Don’t get me wrong I do like to have a nose through other peoples photos, but I choose to keep the more personal, precious one’s private. I’d rather have them in a nice photo album or photo frame. I like ‘keep it personals’ selection of personalised photo frames. They have one’s which can be personalised to include your child’s name and I love the big silver family ones.
Going to back to online safety, I always ask friends and family to ask me before they post a picture of our daughters online. I don’t think this is too much to ask for, especially when some have hundreds of friends, most of which they don’t even know.
