Once Upon A Time Online Book Review

Book

As one of Parragon Books Book Buddies, we were recently sent the book, ‘Once Upon A Time Online‘ to review, along with a cute fairytale crayon.

I was so curious to find out what this book was all about. Living in todays world with technology all around us, I do have my concerns about my children’s futures, but by arming them with the right information, those worries can soon fade away.

Once Upon A Time Online is a beautifully illustrated book by David Bedford and Rosie Reeve. The story follows some of our children’s most well recognised and well loved fairytale characters such as Cinderella, The Three Little Pigs and Little Red Riding Hood on a journey that started when a laptop arrives in Fairy-tale land.

Jack, from Jack and the Beanstalk is the first to find the laptop, but he doesn’t know what to do with it so he seeks out someone to help. That person is Cinderella who knows exactly what to do. Cinderella soon becomes the first fairytale online shopper and is quickly followed by the three little pigs, Rapunzel and more, as they all take turns to do some online shopping.

Everything is great at first…

However, it wasn’t long before a very big bill arrived and the characters soon discovered that being online wasn’t always a good thing. The three little pigs got bored and actually started to complain when the wolf was too busy with his online gaming to pester them.

Little Red Riding Hood walked into some brambles as she was too busy watching her screen, instead of watching where she was going!

Rapunzel soon ran into problems too when her tablet hadn’t worked for over an hour, and the wolf didn’t know what to do when the giant wanted to play on the laptop too.

It wasn’t long before the characters started wishing that they’d never seen the laptop. They started asking for help.

Thankfully the Fairy Godmother appears and tells everyone not to worry.

With some wise words about how you should always ask a grown up before going online, the Fairy Godmother soon solved all of the characters problems….

…and before long the fairytale folk are all feeling just fine, living happily ever after…online!

I have to say that my children and I really enjoyed this book. The pictures are bright, colourful and help to bring the story to life, but the book also delivers a good message about making sure that when you do go online, you always ask a grown up, and use the internet sensibly.

Overall, this I think this is a wonderful book for children aged between 3 and 6.

For the purpose of this review, we were sent one book to review. All views and opinions are 100% my own.

  1. There’s a nice message – it’s funny to hear classic characters living a 21st century lifestyle, so true!
I’ll keep this in mind for my nephew and niece. 🙂
