New Health Social Media Website Launches – Pow Health

July 30, 2014

When one of my girls is unwell, the first place I go is the internet. Searching for symptoms, looking for images and visiting forums for advice.

Before the internet existed and also for those who don’t have internet access, such as my mother-in-law, they often resort to medical books for advice.

I can’t remember the number of times I’ve lost appointment cards and rifled through pages of our twins little red books to find something out.

Wouldn’t it be great to have one easy to access place you could visit from time to time to keep track of all your health details?

Now you can!

A brand new social media site focused on solving the headache of managing and keeping track of all your health details is now available!

PowHealth.com has been designed to help parents and individuals manage all their health and wellbeing in one place, irrespective of changing needs and ideal for those managing general wellness as well as long term health conditions.

Signing up is easy. Simply visit the website, click ‘Join Today’ and enter the information required.

Pow Health is working with leading charities in the UK and Ireland to help people become more involved in their own health management. They also donate £1 to a charity partner for each new registration. You can either chose a charity from the drop down menu or let Pow Health decide for you.

Once you’ve entered all of your details, you’ll receive an email to activate your account.

It really is that simple!

It is widely accepted that by getting more involved in your health management or the health of others you care for, you can improve health outcomes. Pow Health allows you to securely record every detail of your own or your children’s health and treatments – from appointments, allergies and immunisations, right through to ailments you’ve noticed, symptoms they’ve experienced and medicines they’ve been using.

In the UK around a quarter of those people with a long standing problem have three or more problems making care far more complex.

Did you know 60% of adults in England report a long-term health problem. When you also consider that health care professionals may only interact with people with a chronic disease for a few hours a year is it any wonder that people are turning to the internet for more information, support and advice.

Over 11,000 conditions can be managed using Pow Health.

There are over 400 communities covering lifestyle themes, such as women’s health, new mums, fitness & excercise; as well as condition-specific communities, such as; diabetes, high cholesterol and asthma.

Ifty Ahmed, CEO and founder of Pow Health said of the thought process behind the site:

“We are becoming increasingly health conscious, but at the same time our lifestyles are busier, more demanding and more cluttered in every respect, especially if you’re a parent. Pow Health was designed to help streamline anything related to health in people’s lives.

Life becomes easier when all your records and information are held in one place and are immediately accessible – you become more aware and more efficient at tracking and monitoring changes in health, which you can then share with your doctor – or simply discuss in the forums with others who have had similar experiences. Lots of people are sharing intimate health information over Facebook, we hope people can engage with one another more effectively.

We’ve also tried to create a site that serves the needs of different audiences and users, so parents of young children as well as carers of the elderly or long term ill can benefit from it as well as those that are just generally interested in their personal wellbeing and fitness.

The Pow Health website is easy to use. When you log in you can update your details straight away by clicking ‘Add’ next to the information you want to update.

When adding symptoms you can select a start and end date, plus you can chose a severity out of 10. So 1 would be mild, 5 would be moderate and a 10 would be severe.

As well as being able to add information such as conditions, symptoms and allergies, there are also some great tracking tools available.

From recording your mood, pain and anxiety/depression to recording your mobility, self care and usual activities Pow Health is an all round online medical journal.

The ‘My Health’ section also allows you to get a valuable snapshot of your tracking and compares you with other people experiencing a similar condition that you may be monitoring.

With security and confidentiality being one of the biggest concerns for potential users, the team at Pow Health have again focused attention on creating a completely secure product which offers you the flexibility to manage another person’s record as a parent or carer, but to also decide what level of information you wish to share with individuals, forums or even your doctor.

Ifty Ahmed continues:

“Pow Health is a social media network to help you manage your health records and monitor your symptoms and progress, whether you’re doing it for yourself or your children. Parents often turn to each other for advice and Pow Health allows you to not only broaden your network generally, but to focus on very specific communities who are in similar situations. Our aim is to bring the experts and the patients together in one place to start building better communications.”

Pow Health is a completely free service to join. Regular updates are also available on Facebook and Twitter.
