Messy Play: Gloop

There’s nothing more I love than getting creative and crafty with our twins. We have our very own crafty box filled with all sorts of delights! From foam stickers, crayons, finger paints, glitter and feathers to play dough, stamps and fuzzy felt!
After reading a recent post from the lovely blog, Being Mrs C I thought I would invest in a ‘Tuff Spot,’ also known as a mixing tray. Commonly used by tradesmen to mix cement these also double up wonderfully for use in messy play. One rainy day, I decided to make gloop with the girls. Gloop is a mixture of corn flour and water which when mixed together form a weirdly wonderful weird substance!
It’s loads of fun, but it’s so weird! It looks like a liquid and it’s runny like a liquid, but it’s not wet! When rolled up into a ball in the palm of your hand it’s a solid, but open your palm up and it will run and stretch and dribble! When it dries on your hand it’s almost like candle wax.
I’m not sure who enjoyed playing with it the most, me or the twins! I didn’t use precise measurements. I simply emptied half a packet of corn flour into a bowl and then before adding water I let R and M put their hands in the bowl so they could discover for themselves what the flour felt like. M loved rubbing it all over the tray and R seemed to enjoy trying to mix it in the bowl with her spoon!
I then poured a small amount of water and gradually added a bit more until we had a consistency that seemed good!
Let the fun begin!
