Messy Play: Glitter Finger Paint

October 21, 2013

Following on from my last messy play post which was all about the wonderfully weird world of gloop, I have another post to share with you that was even messier than gloop!

I’m always on the lookout for creative products to engage and stimulate our girls senses. I love messy play just as much, if not more, than our twins and I regularly encourage them to draw pictures with crayons and finger paints or stick stickers to paper or their toys. We’ve tested out foam stickers and ink pads, flour and water and now I introduce you to glitter finger paint!

Whilst on my way home from work, I called into the local supermarket to pick up a few bits and pieces and as I always do I somehow manage to find myself down the toy aisle! I don’t know what it is about toys, but I always get drawn to this aisle regardless of what shop I’m in much to the annoyance of Twin Daddy! Whilst down this magical aisle I caught sight of a pack of four pots of glitter and thought to myself, brilliant! Something new I can introduce R and M too!

A few days later it was raining outside so I decided to get out our play tray, the finger paints and glitter.

In hindsight I should have dressed the girls a bit more appropriately for this kind of play, but I was too excited and caught up in the moment of what we were about to do that it slipped my mind and we inadvertently created glitter socks!

I lay down the play tray along with a few pieces of paper and to start with I squirted some paint onto the paper for R and M to have a play with. After a little while I decided to introduce the glitter and in my wisdom I decided it would be a good idea to give them a pot of glitter each!

This was a mistake!

I mean what did I think they were going to do with it?! Delicately and carefully sprinkle it onto the paper?!

Oh well, by the time they’d both poured all the glitter out of the pots it was too late to do anything, but let the fun begin!

It was messy and even though I did this a good few weeks ago I’m still finding bits of glitter everywhere, but we all had a good time!

R and M both enjoyed mixing the paint with the glitter and then trying to draw pictures on the paper. I think both girls were quite intrigued by the way the glitter felt in their hands and they seemed to enjoy playing with the pots that the glitter came in too!

Indeed! Very messy, but tons of fun! Although I didn't enjoy clean in it all up afterwards! x
