October 11th this year will by my one year self-employment anniversary. I can’t quite believe that I’m self-employed, but I have to say that it’s one of the best decisions I ever made.
After accepting redundancy back in 2017, I wasn’t sure what my future would hold. Having worked for a company for 13 years, the majority of which was full time, I then went down to part time after my children were born.
I thought that I’d be able to find a part time job that suited my family and I easily, but sadly that wasn’t the case. I needed a job that was two days a week with hours in the day. This would allow my husband, who is also self-employed, and I to adequately cover our childcare needs.
When I was looking for jobs I came across many franchise opportunities, and the thought of being self-employed was indeed very appealing. It gives you the freedom to chose your own hours, be your own boss and be in charge of your own personal growth.
For those who are unsure of what a franchise is, let me briefly explain. It’s basically a type of business that’s owned and operated by individuals known as franchisees. The franchise is branded and is overseen by a much larger company. It sounds complicated, but it’s actually quite simple.
Self-employment has given me so much freedom when it comes to my family. I set my own hours, set my own rate of pay, and I work hard to make sure it works. If I need to have a day off so that I can go to my children’s sports day or school concerts then I can. That’s the job of being self-employed. Having the flexibility to move things around to suit you and your family.
There are many franchise opportunities available. Rainbow International restoration are one such company that offer a franchise. You can visit their site for more information about what they can offer, but put simply Rainbow International are a leading name for specialist cleaning and restoration.
Like any franchise opportunity, it’s important that you do your own research beforehand to ensure that the company you choose is right for you.
Although I decided to work myself rather than take up a franchise opportunity, it’s still something that I would consider when my girls are older.
