A little while ago I wrote about how I felt lonely at one particular play group. We go to a few groups over the course of the week.
Since my last post I have had two ‘play dates’ with another mum in our homes.
We both went to the play group mentioned above, but both found it busy and it lacked toys for children to play with. I took a brave step and asked her if she wanted to skip play group the following week and come over mine. She agreed!
I kind of felt bad to start with. Almost as though by not taking my children to play group I was depriving them! It’s silly really because we go to a lovely, friendly play group on a Wednesday and a music group on a Friday.
Our first play date was at my house and I was nervous. Aside from my own children and my niece and nephew I hadn’t had any other children around. I was unsure about how my girls would react to other children playing with their toys.
Thankfully it went well! The other ladies children, a girl aged three and a boy, 18 months, were well behaved and all the children played nicely together. It was a little tiring, but we all enjoyed it and she invited me over to hers the following week.
I was concerned that R and M may not feel confident enough to play with the toys in her house and would end up sat on my lap the whole time, but that wasn’t the case at all!
They played well together and the other little girl even asked her mummy if she could show R and M her bedroom!
It took a big step from me to ask another mum if she wanted to come over, but I’m glad I did!

Isn't is funny how these things can stress us out, like we are teenagers facing dating again

Well done you! I have a friend who comes over to mine and I go over to hers weekly and now our youngest daughters go to school together and they are best friends! When the kids are in school we sometimes have a 'tea and cake' morning! Which I love!
She bought something off me on Facebook about 2 years ago and after that I kept seeing her at school and we just talked and that's when our friendship started! And now we're best friends!

Emily I read your post about the play groups when it went live and I was in exactly the same boat. I hated going to playgroups because I felt so alone. Everyone knew each other and I knew no-one. I had hoped to make some new friends that had a child the same age as little J, unfortunately I didn't stick around to make any. I am so glad you now have someone to share playdates with. Thanks for linking up #ToddlersAndTeens

That's great your playdate worked out! I always found that sort of thing hard when my two were younger. I'm not very forthcoming in organising things and assume everyone else is busy already, so don't want to bother them! Sad, I know! I have however, met a few lifelong friends through my children! 🙂 x #ToddlersAndTeens
