Buying a House
All my life I have lived in Cardiff, the capital of Wales. I was raised in the northern suburb of Rhiwbina and I have lots of fond memories of this beautiful village. I remember my sister and I would walk to the Monico cinema which was only about five minutes away, to see the latest film. The Monico was the last independent cinema in Cardiff when it was demolished in 2003, after 65 years of business. It’s a shame really because it was one of Rhiwbina’s biggest attractions.
Having said that, you can drive to the Showcase cinema in Nantgarw in under 10 minutes and there are also a number of cinemas in the city centre.
My sister and I had so much fun playing in the parks in and around Rhiwbina, running in the river and exploring the local area. I knew that when I was to have children of my own I wanted to bring them up here. There are three local schools all of which are within walkng distance. There are many baby groups in the area and the yearly festival is not to be missed. Plus, with my love of books the local library is always a great place for me to take the twins. Everyone is friendly and we all say good morning to each other when we pass in the street. It’s a really nice, friendly place to live.
One of my favourite places to take my girls is the local park. It’s only around the corner from where I live and it’s really well maintained. It’s also divided into two parks. One for older children and one for toddlers. The toddler one has four swings, two slides, a climbing frame, a seesaw and a rocking zebra. The girls love running around the park.
Another great place to go with our girls is the City Centre. It only takes around 10-15 minutes by car and I love the new St David’s Shopping centre. They have every shop you could ever imagine! From designer clothes shops to Disney and Hamley’s toy shop. They also have a lovely food area with plenty of different restaurants from traditional British food to Chinese food and Indian. You’ll be sure to find something that you’ll like.
Rhiwbina is also only a 20 minute walk away from the neighbouring Whitchurch village, which has a number of different shops, cafe’s and parks.
In December 2012, Twin Daddy and I moved back to Rhiwbina. We are currently renting our home because with an average house price in Rhiwbina of £239,383 we simply can’t afford to buy at the moment. Having said that I know that one day I will own a house in this affluent area by working hard and saving as much as we can afford. When the time does come to buy, we will be sure to use a mortgage calculator to help give us an idea of what we can afford.
