Ripple Living Zero Waste Shop in Cardiff

Following on from my blog post (which you can read here) last week about how we’re trying to embrace a more environmentally friendly, zero waste life, I thought I’d pay a visit to Cardiffs first ever zero waste not-for-profit shop, Ripple Living. Started by Sophie after watching Blue Planet II in 2017, she was deeply shocked to see the devastating harm humans were having on our planet. Ever since then, Sophie decided to start her own zero-waste journey by making small changes to help lighten her personal plastic footprint. Ripple Living is all about conscious consuming; from our food to… [Read More]

Review: Afternoon Tea at Octavo’s Book Cafe & Wine Bar

Last Wednesday was my birthday. I really wanted to do something different from what I usually do so when I saw a Groupon offer back in October for Afternoon Tea in Octavo’s Book Cafe & Wine Bar, I thought it would be a lovely way to spend my birthday. Octavo’s Book Cafe & Wine Bar is in Cardiff Bay on West Bute Street. It’s situated in a former coaching inn, the oldest building (1939) in what used to be called Tiger Bay.  Octavo’s offers a wide range of books that are available to buy, alongside good food and drink such… [Read More]

Cardiff’s Winter Wonderland Review

On Thursday evening my family and I were invited to review Cardiff’s Winter Winterland. We’ve been taking our twin girls ice skating there every year for the past year, so we were very excited to have the chance to go again. In return for this review we were gifted food, ride tokens and an ice skating session. The ice skating is usually one of the main attractions for us, but this year the funfair really stood out. There seemed to be a lot more rides this year, and the big wheel that’s usually there was replaced with an epic 90ft… [Read More]

A month of strength training

Yesterday I wrote a post about how my step-daughter and I completed the Cardiff Half Marathon on the 7th of this month. You can read that post by clicking here. As many of my readers know I didn’t really train properly for the Cardiff Half Marathon due to injury. As such I really didn’t enjoy running it this year as much as I had the previous year. I put this down to being injured and a lack of training. Now, next year. April to be precise, I will be running the London Marathon for a wonderful charity called WellChild. I’m… [Read More]

Cardiff Half Marathon 2018

Last year I completed the Cardiff Half Marathon for the first time. Despite being injured during training, I recovered pretty well and completed it in 2 hours 29 minutes and 3 seconds. My original target was 2 hours 15 minutes, but after injury, I changed my target to 2 hours 30 minutes, and I was very pleased to have achieved that. I decided to take part in the Cardiff Half Marathon again this year in the hopes of getting a better time. Unfortunately during training, I was injured again. This year my injury was worse than last year. As such… [Read More]

Cardiff Half Marathon/London Marathon Training

I haven’t been able to run properly for around 5 to 6 weeks now. Unfortunately a few weeks back, I injured my leg and have been trying to my best (despite the odd ‘test’ run) to rest. Being injured is very frustrating, even more so when you’re training for an event. On October 7th, I’ll be running the Cardiff Half Marathon. I did it last year for the first time, and completed it in 2 hours 29 minutes and 3 seconds. I even got injured in training last year as well! This year, my goal is to complete the Cardiff… [Read More]

But doc, can I still run?

Oh the frustration of being a runner, or any sportswoman or man for that matter, is when you’re injured. This is made even more frustrating when everywhere you go, everyone appears to be doing the sport you’re currently unable to do! In my case, running! Whilst training for my first half marathon last year I tore the adductor muscle in my right leg, and ever since then I seem to be injury prone! I ran a 10k earlier this year whilst injured, and ended up having to rest for 3-4 weeks, and now can you believe it, I’m on the… [Read More]

London Marathon Training Update

It dawned on me a few weeks ago that I’ve been so focused on fundraising for the London Marathon 2019 for my charity, WellChild, that I haven’t actually written an update on how my training is going. Whilst I written plenty of posts about how fundraising going, read my latest post here, I thought I’d write about my training. It may seem a little early to some to start training now, but my training is actually twofold. You see I’m also running the Cardiff Half Marathon in October 2018 for Cancer Research UK, so my training plan has started now… [Read More]

Circus Vegas Review

The Greatest Showman has a lot to answer to! Ever since our six year old twin girls, my husband and I watched this movie for the first time, we’ve all become a bit obsessed with the circus! We’ve watched The Greatest Showman numerous times. So much so that our girls know most of the words to all of the songs! They’re also on my running playlist! It’s a great soundtrack to run to! Anyway, a few weeks ago I went into my local pharmacy where they had flyers for Circus Vegas offering half price tickets. The same day that I… [Read More]

My Favourite Running Routes in Cardiff

As someone who enjoys to run outdoors, I thought I would share with you my favourite places to run in Cardiff. I feel very lucky to live in a city that has lots of parks and scenic areas. Within close proximity to my house are so many beautiful places to run. Here are my favourites. Cefn Onn Cefn One Park in Thornhill Cardiff is full of beautiful trees, streams, ponds and woodland. From my house to Cefn Onn it’s a 5k run, so to Cefn Onn and home again, that’s a beautiful 10k. The route up is very varied in terms… [Read More]
