Bigjigs Young Chefs Baking Set and Pastry Set Review. Mission 5.
Agents Double Team are back for their fifth Bigjigs Play Patrol Mission.
This mission sees us take to the kitchen to cook up some delicous vanilla butter biscuits!
We received a Young Chefs Baking Set available from Bigjigs for £11.99 and a Pastry Set which is just £5.99.
The Young Chefs Baking Set is suitable for children aged three and over.
The set includes a six-bun baking tray, a ramekin, loaf tin, a whisk, a wooden rolling pin, oven glove, measuring spoons and six pastry cutters.
The Pastry Set is also suitable for children aged 3 and over. Included with this set you can find a wooden spoon, spatula, pastry board, rolling pin and six brightly coloured plastic pastry cutter shapes, including a star, car, dog, Christmas tree, train and a penguin.
As mentioned above we decided to make some Vanilla Butter Biscuits. If you’d like to make your own, you just need:
- 125g unsalted butter
- 80g caster sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla essence
- 115g self-raising flour
- 100g plain flour
- 2 tablespoons milk
- Grease two baking trays with butter – this will help to prevent the biscuits from sticking!
- Add the butter, sugar and vanilla essence to a bowl and beat with an electric beater or you can use a whisk to do this by hand. Beat until all of the ingredients are combined
- Sift both the self-raising flour and the plain flour together. Add half of the sifted flour to the butter mixture and mix with a wooden spoon until combined. Add the milk and mix well
- Add the remaining flour and continue to mix until the mixture becomes difficult to mix with the wooden spoon. Use your hand to mix until a soft dough is formed.
- Sprinkle some flour onto a clean work surface and then split the dough into small balls.
- Flatten the balls using the palm of your hand and then use your rolling pin to even out the dough
- Use the cutters to create various shapes of biscuits and add them to the baking trays
- Place the trays into the fridge to cool for 20 minutes and then preheat your oven to 160 degrees
- Bake for 18-20 minutes until the biscuits rise and crack slightly on top so they’re golden brown underneath
- Once cooked allow to cool before enjoying them!
Overall both the young chefs baking set and pastry set are wonderful additions to your kitchen and will surely help to encourage children into the kitchen to fuel their creativity.

What lovely sets. I particularly like the Young Chefs one. Child-sized oven gloves are a great idea. It looks like they had a lot of fun too 🙂 xx
