We were recently invited to take part in a bedroom makeover challenge by Hillarys. To take part we were given a £100 voucher along with some expert advice from interior stylist, Joanna Thornhill.
Our bedroom was definitely needed a makeover. It was pretty dull to be honest. I like that our bedroom is minimal in that it just has a bed and some bedside cabinets in, but I wanted it to be more of a relaxing room rather just a room we slept in.
After sending pictures off to Joanna, this was the advice she gave us:
1. To aid the relaxing feel, a duck egg blue or French grey on the walls would smarten things up yet provide a neutral enough backdrop for any artworks. You have an odd alcove above your bed and no real focal point so why not consider going all-out glam with an oversized padded headboard? Add on some pretty satin cushions and a throw in a tactile yet luxurious fabric, like velvet, to create a real cosy retreat.
2.Finish things off with some fluffy flokati or sheepskin rugs on the floor for the ultimate relaxing retreat.
Mid-term:
1.The current window treatments certainly are a little on the dated side and you’ve got a large enough window to take a strong design, so perhaps shutters could give the wow factor and sophistication the room craves? Their adjustable slats would allow you to alter the light to suit how you wish to use the space, offering a versatile option.

We decided to pain the walls in Gentle Fawn by Dulux as it was a nice neutral colour.
We took Joanna’s advice with regard to getting a headboard. As you can see we do have a rather odd alcove behind out bed and the headboard, which was an amazing £45 from Amazon, definitely helps to hide the alcove and create a focal point for the room.
I also bought some beautiful cushions and a throw from Homebase which we scattered on the bed to help create a cosy feeling.
The pebble canvas was £5 from a selling group on Facebook!
Overall I think we did a really good job of giving this room a makeover for under £100!

It's great what can be done on a budget. I like to try and keep the bedroom as neutral as possible on the walls (so similar to you) and then at accents of colour on the curtains and bed linen etc x
