Peppa Pig’s Surprise! Live Show Review at the New Theatre, Cardiff!

We’re big fans of Peppa Pig in our house so when we heard that the live show was coming to Cardiff we were keen to find out what all the fuss was about. 

Peppa Pig’s Surprise is an action packed live show with lots of dancing, singing and audience participation. 

Featuring life size puppets, this show had has completely hooked from beginning to end. At one hour and twenty minutes long, including an intermission, it wasn’t too long for our three and a half year old twins. 

The show starts with Daisy, who isn’t a puppet, searching for her friends. From the minute the show starts children were shouting and pointing to various characters who were hiding behind trees and bushes. Peppa peeks around the corner of the stage from behind a tree and children can be heard yelling, “She’s behind you!”

Classic pantomime stuff and it was clear that the children, and adults loved every minute of it! 

During the next part of the show, the ‘Bing Bong’ song is sung. I have to admit that whilst we are pretty big Peppa Pig fans in our house, we have a number of DVDs and watch some of the episodes on You Tube, I’m afraid the ‘Bing Bong’ song isn’t one we’d heard before!

It didn’t matter though because out came one of the performers with the words on a sign so that we could all join in too! 

Peppa, George and their friends then go on a muddy puddle hunt! Thankfully there aren’t real muddy puddles just pretend ones!

After all the muddy puddle jumping, it’s time for everyone to go home and clean up. It’s nearly bedtime so Peppa and George say bye to their friends and head home. Once home Peppa and George have a bubble bath, complete with real bubbles blowing behind them!

Daddy Pig decides to blow some bubbles too and with the help of Daisy, who gets Daddy Pig’s bucket of bubble mixture, Daisy creates some pretty big bubbles. The audience were encouraged to help keep the bubbles in the air by waving their arms!

After bath time, Peppa and George snuggle down into their beds as Daisy reads them a bedtime story all about a little red monkey. Just as they’re all about to doze off to sleep, a little red monkey appears and puts on a show for Peppa and George. He dances around the stage, wiggles his bottom and even dances with Peppa’s Teddy!

Soon it’s time for bed. They’ll all need a good nights sleep before their surprise trip to the seaside tomorrow!

At this point in the show it was time for an intermission. This was around 15 minutes long. 

The following day, Mummy Pig, Daddy Pig, Peppa, George and Daisy all get into Daddy’s car so that they can go to the seaside. Sadly their car breaks down on the way and lots of smoke pours out from under the bonnet! Oh no! 

When they finally arrive at the beach, Peppa and George’s friends were all there too. They all do what everyone does when at the seaside and they make sandcastles, bury Daddy Pig in the sand and explore rock pools!

When Daisy and Peppa decide explore the rock pools, a black curtain is pulled across the stage and a fantastic light show starts which shows all of the creatures that Peppa and Daisy can see in the rock pools. There are fish, seahorses, a crab and some more creatures too.  

I think the light show was my favourite part of the show!

After they’ve finished exploring the rock pools, we’re taken back to the beach where Daddy Pig is snoring under his sunhat! 

Overall, a great show that was fast paced, loud and lots of fun! Our twins loved it and I have to be honest and say that Mummy and Daddy did too!
