Creating Our Own Christmas Traditions
Growing up I remember some specific details about what would happen in our house at Christmas time. Mum would make a Christmas cake every year and it always tasted delicious. We would have the whole family around ours on Christmas day and after opening our presents we would all sit around the dining table together and enjoy Christmas dinner.
I remember waking up every Christmas morning to an overflowing Christmas stocking at the foot of my bed. Like most children, I imagine, I hardly slept Christmas eve for all the excitment of what the following day would bring. I swear I even heard Santa’s sleighbells one year!
Whilst everyone in the house slept, I would turn on my torch or bedside lamp and as quietly as I could I would start looking through the contents of my stocking!
That is one of my favourite Christmas memories from my childhood!
I want to carry on some of the Christmas traditions from my childhood with our twins and I would also like to create some new traditions.
This will be our twins second Christmas and unlike last year, this year I have bought the girls a Christmas stocking each and filled it with some fab presents for them! I won’t be placing them at the foot of their beds just yet, as they’re not two years old yet, but I will do this when they are a little older!
I also plan on carrying on my mums Christmas tradition of making Christmas cake every year and I’ve also decided that each year I will make my own apple pie, mince pies, festive biscuits and chocolate log too!
In addition to this Twin Daddy and I have also decided to start a few new traditions of our own. One of these being a Christmas eve tradition.
We won’t be starting this one year, as again the girls are a little too young so maybe next year, we’ll see!
On Christmas eve, we’ll present our girls with a new pair of festive pyjamas each and then all settle down in front of the TV with a hot drink to watch a Christmas film!
I’ve also started another tradition, which I thought of completely by accident!
I was in a shop with the girls buying them some stocking fillers when I went to pay for the items I had picked up. The lady behind the counter told me that I had to spend over £5.00 to pay by card. I quickly looked around the shop for something to bump the price up a bit as I didn’t have the energy to go in search of a cash point and I came across two geese Christmas tree decorations so I bought them!
Instead of hanging them on our Christmas tree, I have wrapped them up and put them in the girls stockings and then on Christmas day they will each have a decoration to hang on the Christmas tree. So this is my accidental Christmas tradition!
Every year, I will buy the girls a Christmas tree decoration each for them to hang on the tree themselves! I think this is a lovely, different type of tradition and one that I hope our girls will still enjoy doing when they’re 18!
