Finding Mummy Friends

June 18, 2013

Before our twins were born I didn’t have many friends outside of work. I have my twin sister which is great but friends from school have all moved away or had families of their own and were too busy or too far away to socialise. Now that our twins are here and they’re almost 16 months old, I would love to have some mummy friends that I can meet in the park or just go places with or simply pop round for a cuppa whilst the babies play.

I wonder though how do you go about making mummy friends when everyone I meet seems to already be ‘clicky’ with their other mummy friends? I have been regularly attending the same baby and music groups now since December and am yet to have made a friend. Of course, when I go I chat with the same people and always chat to someone new but I don’t seem to be able to make friends.

I took the girls to soft play in the local leisure centre on the weekend and met a lovely lady with her husband and 1 year son. I kind of got the impression that she wanted to be friends as we had the same things in common and lived literally around the corner from each other. When it came down to it though I felt awkward, even a bit weird about asking another female for her number or if she would like to have a cuppa or play date together. So just how do you do it?

I’m planning in going back to the leisure centre again on Saturday in the hope that she will be there again but is this a bit weird of me? I usually go on a Sunday with Twin Daddy but am purposely planning on going Saturday instead so I can try to start a friendship.

Does anyone have any tips or experiences they can share?

I think it's just that- putting yourself out there.
And if you ever want to meet a mum with 2 1/2 year old twin boys… @_johnsonbabies

I struggle with making friends especially since I lost touch with so many friends when I was suffering with depression and I now find it hard to develop a friendship from a casual meeting to something more. I have no tips to impart unfortunately as I could do with many tips myself 🙂
