As your child grows, they’ll start showing their personality and having preferences over what they want their own space to be like. Pay attention to what your toddler likes and plays with, and design a fun and functional bedroom around these ideas.
This may be their first bedroom after moving out of yours – so make sure it’s a comfy and cosy space they love being in to make the transition easier.
Here’s our top tips for creating a stylish and engaging toddler bedroom that they’ll love playing in!
- Wall stickers
The first thing to consider is the walls. What’s your child’s favourite colour? Keep walls neutral so you can add fun-coloured furniture, or go the opposite way with bright walls and white or wooden furniture. Decorate with wall stickers for bedrooms – or decals – in the form of animals, flowers, or whatever matches the room theme!
- Bookcase
Pick up a cute special toddler-size bookcase – one that can be easily reached by little people so they can start reading independently, to store their bedtime stories away in a neat shelving unit.
- Storage bed
To keep everything neat and tidy, a toddler storage bed is a great idea. These work especially well for smaller rooms, keeping everything stored together. Go for drawers under the bed – some even come with ‘storage ladders’, with shelving under the ladder up to a bunk bed.
- Play den
Every child loves building dens – but you can get them pre-made these days! See your child’s eyes light up when you show them their new fun play tent in the toy corner of their bedroom! Throw a few cushions inside and they’ll happily play in there for hours. It’s likely to become their favourite hide-and-seek spot.
- Toy box
A classic toy chest is a lovely way to tidy away the hundreds of toys that toddlers accumulate. Make sure it has a safety-close lock so that it doesn’t snap shut on any tiny fingers. You can get these in any colour you can think of; and also have them personalised if you wish.
- Fairy lights
Fairy lights are a cute way to light up any room. They don’t just have to be pink and fluffy: there are plenty of varieties of string lights that work well in boys’ bedrooms too.
- Clock
Including a big wall clock is a great idea to get your child interested in telling the time. Obviously they’ll need some help at first, but they’ll soon learn – kids’ brains are like absorbent sponges.
- Open wardrobe
Including a wardrobe that your child can see and reach is a great way to get them choosing their own clothes and expressing their individuality. Let them choose their kindergarten outfit and they’ll start to have fun dressing themselves.
- Map rug
Map rugs have been around since our own childhoods, and we all know how fun they were! Especially if your child loves playing with toy cars, a map rug is a cute thing to include in their play area, so they can drive around town!
- 10.Animal lamp
Sweet children’s bedroom lamps are available in a variety of animal shapes and colours. Find lions, penguins, rabbits and cats in cool geometric shapes and different pastel coloured glows at sites like Not on the High Street. They make excellent night lights for little ones who are afraid of the dark, or want to stay up reading.
- 11.Educational posters
Decorate the walls with fun educational posters that help your child learn spelling, telling the time, equations, animal names, and more. Give them a head-start before they start school with interesting bedroom posters.
- 12.Plush carpet
If you’re confident your tearaway toddler won’t spill paint all over it… fluffy plush carpets make great flooring for toddlers who are prone to falling over and scraping knees to provide a soft cushioned landing!
