We Stayed Indoors!

I can’t remember the last time I spent a whole day indoors with the twins. Most days we go out somewhere. Whether it’s to the park, shops, baby or music group we’re always busy doing something. I’m quite an organised person so I always have a plan at least 24 hours beforehand of what I’m going to do.

During term time I take the girls to play group on a Thursday and music group on a Friday. On a Wednesday if it’s raining I usually go to the indoor soft play centre, but if it’s dry I’ll take the girls to the park. I work Monday and Tuesday so entertaining duties are handed over to Twin Daddy and my Dad on these days. When it’s half term and there is no play or music group, I thought I would struggle to find ways to keep the girls entertained. This hasn’t been the case though. I managed to find a play group which runs on a Friday, so that’s Fridays sorted out and again if it’s dry I’ll take the girls to the park. I decided on one rainy day last week that I would stay indoors. There were two reasons for this. Firstly, I was expecting a delivery, but secondly because I quite enjoy staying indoors. As usual I had a plan on how to keep the twins entertained. Enter our rainy day box!

Our rainy day box contains:

  • 3 tubes of washable paint
  • Some crayons
  • A few packs of foam stickers
  • A pack of alphabet sponges
  • Foam stamps



The first thing I did when I opened the box was let R and M explore it for themselves. Rather than me getting everything out for them, I thought I would let them have a look. When they had both emptied the contents of the box onto the living room floor, I got out the girls drawing pads and squeezed the paints onto a blank page. I’ve done this a few times with the girls and they absolutely love using their hands and fingers to smudge the paint around. Of course they always try to eat the paint off their hands, but they soon realise that it’s not food! I showed the girls how to use the sponges to create different effects on the paper and I also showed them how to use the foam stamps with the paints. 


After a little while it was onto the crayons and R enjoyed using them to move the paint around the paper. I got out some plain white cardboard boxes and M made a start on colouring hers in. We also had fun drawing around our hands and feet! 

Next up was the foam stickers and after amusing myself by sticking a few onto R and M, they soon realised that they could stick them on each other and also on me! Things soon progressed and rather than sticking the stickers onto the paper or cardboard, R and M set off toward to the cupboard in our hallway and began covering it in stickers!

Overall the paint, crayons and stickers kept our girls entertained until it was time for lunch! Suffice to say I will be staying indoors a little more often from now on!
