Wanderlust: Florence, Tuscany and the Amalfi Coast
Going on holiday is a luxury that gives us the chance to have something to look forward to. It’s an opportunity to relax, unwind and do what makes you happy.
Something I’ve found out about myself quite recently, and rather expectantly is that I’ve become a bit wanderlust. For those unfamiliar with the term, wanderlust is when you have a very strong desire to travel. You may wonder why this has come as a surprise to me.
For as long as I can remember I’ve always been a home bird. I remember going on an overnight trip during my college days and when I woke up the next morning I wanted nothing more than to go home.
I enjoy spending nights in with a cosy blanket and a good book, but as I’m getting older I seem to have found a new lust for life. All of a sudden I want to explore the world. Not just some exotic far off place, but places near to where I live that I’ve never been before.
It’s amazing how many lanes and public footpaths near my home that I’ve never ventured down! If I hadn’t started running, I would never have known of their existence! There are so many trails and places to explore right on my very own doorstop. So much so that I don’t even know where to start! From forests and nature trails to fields and rivers. I want to explore them all! Perhaps I’ll hop on my bike and take a picnic with me so I can really make the most of it!
Looking further afield, there are some places overseas that I’d like to explore too. I talk a lot about Italy on my blog and although my husband and I have been to Rome twice, I’d love to explore other areas.
Milan has always appealed to me for so many different reasons. Italy’s fashion and design capital calls out to me! As does Tuscany, Florence and of course the Amalfi Coast which is a 50 kilometre stretch of coastline along the southern edge of Italy’s Sorrentine Peninsula, in the Campina region.
Of course in order to explore Italy I’d need a good base. Whilst I would usually opt for a hotel, I think if I were to explore Italy I would definitely think about renting a holiday villa and hiring a car to make the most of out it. I think that way I would give myself the best chance to explore all of Italy’s hidden gems. I could even look into taking my bike! Now that would be pretty cool! Cycling all over Italy! I may need to look up the rules of the road for cycling while in Italy though!
As with any trip abroad it’s so important that you take out insurance for both yourself, your belongings and on the off chance that your flight gets cancelled. With more and more airlines going into administration, having insurance for claiming for cancelled flights is important.
