Safari or beach? Golf or City Break? Which is your favourite?

What is your favourite type of holiday? If you’d have asked me this question a few years ago, I would have answered with ‘a beach holiday’ or ‘city break abroad’. However, nowadays I’m more a fan of camping and staycations!

That being said though I do often think forward to when my girls are grown up so that I can go back to a more ‘grown up’ type of holiday. Perhaps even try something new that I’ve never done before. For example a golf themed holiday in France or perhaps a safari holiday.

As a family we often visit West Midland Safari Park. It’s one of our favourite UK days out, but how amazing would it be to see these beautiful animals up close in their natural habitats? That would definitely be a once in a lifetime experience.

I also quite like the thought of going on an ‘Eat Pray Love‘ style solo trip. In the film, Eat Pray Love, Julia Roberts plays Liz who embarks on a journey around the world that becomes a quest for self-discovery. In her travels, she discovers the true pleasure of nourishment by eating in Italy; the power of prayer in India, and, finally and unexpectedly, the inner peace and balance of true love in Bali. 

I think it would be amazing to have the chance to go travelling for a few months. Travelling from one amazing country to another. Experiencing different cultures and meeting new people.

Although I must admit I have been to Italy twice, but a solo trip is still appealing. My husband and I went to Rome pre-kids, but I’ve always wanted to return so that we can show our children how amazing Rome is. We could embark on tours around the Vatican museum with kids, sit by the Trevi Fountain eating ice cream and people watch from a cafe whilst eating pizza and pasta!

Another type of holiday I’d like to do is to hike the Pacific Crest Trail. I guess some people would probably call this more of an adventure than a holiday. It’s 2,653 miles long.

The route is mostly through National Forest and protected&nbsp. The trail avoids civilization and covers scenic and pristine mountainous terrain with few roads. It passes through the The Pacific Crest Trail is probably one of the best trail experiences on Earth. I love reading other’s people experiences of hiking it. The book, Wild: A Journey from Lost to Found by Cheryl Strand gives an amazing account of the trail.

There are so many things to think about when considering such a big feat. From the best time of year to go, to how you’ll manage in terms of food etc. It would certainly need a lot of planning, but I hope to do it one day.
