Walk your way to a healthier 2016!
2015 was a brilliant year for us. R and M started nursery and took part in their first nativity. We went on a lovely family holiday abroad and also in the UK toward the end of the year. Plus we had lots of days out to the beach, farm and even a safari park.
2016 certainly has a lot to live up too! I’m sure it’ll be an even better year than 2015 though and that’s because I’m determined to make it a healthier one. As I sit here typing away at my laptop, I’ve not long returned from my third run of the year. With each run I feel fitter and find myself running a little further each time.
I’m eating better and I definitely feel more energetic, but I’d like to get my whole family involved too. R and M are nearly four years old. Obviously I can’t expect them to run 3k the way that I run it, but what I’d like to do is encourage them to walk more. At the moment we drive to school, to the park, the shops and playgroup. You may not think much of that, but when you consider that we live on the same as all of the above mentioned places, then you can probably understand why I’d like to ditch the car and pop my walking shoes on! Regatta Outlet have a great selection available!
R and M will walk, but quite often after just a few minutes they’ll complain that they’re tired and repeatedly ask to be picked up. I’d love to be able to walk to school with them when the weather starts to brighten up.
I feel quite guilty at times when we pull up at school, emerge from our car and then walk the short distance from the car to the school entrance, especially when we live on the same road!
We’ll start off slow and go for short, regular walks, then build it up to longer walks. I think it will also be a great way to encourage R and M to be active and of course give us the chance to discover all the benefits that walking provides.
What do you think? Do your children walk far or ask to be picked up?
