Vonage Review
Many people have friends and family jotted all over the world, but staying in touch can often be expensive.
Vonage is a company that allows people to make phone calls over the internet using your home phone. It can help to dramatically cut the cost of the UK and International phone calls you make on your home phone and even on your smartphone.
Vonage bypasses traditional phone networks by routing all your calls through the internet via VOIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) technology. Using your broadband connection if you’re using your home phone, and your Wi-Fi connection, GSM or mobile data (3G/4G) if you’re using a smartphone.
You don’t need a PC or a microphone headset – just your usual telephone handset.
You’ll be sent a small box which you just need to connect to your existing broadband by plugging it directly into your broadband router. You then need to plug your existing phone into your Vonage box and then pick up the phone to make your first phone call.
We were sent a box from Vonage to test out for one month and I’m pleased to say that set-up really was simple.
The connection is great with no background noise or crackling. Just like making a phone call from a mobile phone.
I remember the days when I would pick up my house phone to make a call only to find someone was using the internet. This resulted in a strange, screechy sound coming down the phone line! Things have come a long way since dial up!
There are many reasons why people would want to use a service such as the one provided by Vonage. As mentioned at the start of this post, many people do have friends and family living abroad so it’s great for staying in touch with them. It’s also good for mums and dads who have children going off to university.
My step-daughter has plans to go university. She’s already completed her application forms and is just waiting to hear back.
Her university of choice is very far away which means we wouldn’t see her often, but that doesn’t mean we won’t be able to speak to her on a regular basis.
Vonage offer a range of different price plans starting from just £7.00 per month.
There are a number of price plans available including the Premium World & Mobile 250 calling plan. This plan is £19.00 a month and includes unlimited UK and Ireland landline calls, unlimited calls to 68 countries, 250 minutes to UK mobiles among other features.
Payment is via one monthly payment and you can manage your billing online.
Vonage can also be used for your business. It’s an affordable way to add a landline number to your business card, plus it guarantees great reception.
