The Gruffalo: Book Review
Who doesn’t love a bit of Julia Donaldson?! She has to be one of the most popular children’s authors around at the moment!
We love her books including, room on the broom and what the lady bird heard so we had high hopes for this book. I knew what The Gruffalo was about because we have the DVD, but I’d never read the book before and I’m glad to say that it didn’t disappoint!
This book tells a fascinating tale of a little mouse who took a stroll through the deep dark wood one day. I love the rhyming sentences, it helps make the book a joy to read and listen to. During his walk the mouse comes face to face with an owl, snake and some other creatures. The quick thinking mouse tells the creatures that he’s going to find the Gruffalo and proceeds to tell each of the creatures that the Gruffalo would love to eat them meaning the creatures quickly scurry away without bothering the mouse anymore.
When the mouse does actually come to face to face with the hungry Gruffalo, he quickly tells the Gruffalo that all of the other animals are scared of him in a ploy to stop the Gruffalo from eating him. He tells the Gruffalo to walk behind him and he’ll soon see for himself!
I absolutely love this book and so do our girls! The illustrations throughout have a real magical charm to them and this book is definitely a firm favourite!

Great review! I really liked the purpose of the questionnaire! It gives a fair feeling about the reading experience!

I used to read this to my son when he was little and to children in school when I was a student teacher. I think it's one of the best kids book ever!
