Hygge Book

Have you heard of the word, Hygge, before? I hadn’t either, until the lovely people over at Bed Guru contacted me. Hygge is the danish concept of cosiness, calm and simplicity. Pronounced ‘hue-guh’, this word describes a moment of happiness, warmth or togetherness, and it’s found in the little things in life. Sounds great, doesn’t it? Bed Guru have taken an interest in the concept of Hygge and how we can embrace this in our homes and bedrooms. As such Bed Guru sent me a lovely Hygge Kit and you can win one too! Inside the kit you can find… [Read More]

Why having a bedtime routine for your child is important

Bedtime routines are really important for children. For as long as I can remember, we’ve always followed a set bedtime routine for our twins.  Of course, over the years we’ve had to make some small adjustments, but now that our girls are four years old, their bedtime room is very consistent and has been ever since they were babies.  We haven’t always read them a bedtime story. When they were babies it was easier to give them their milk, a cuddle and rock them gently to sleep. A bedtime story was quite often stimulation that they didn’t need before going… [Read More]

National Bed Wetting Day

The 24th of May is National Bed Wetting Day. As a mum of children under the age of five, it’s important to me that I understand the reasons why children wet the bed, but also to find out what we can do to stop bed wetting. Our twins are four years old and they still wear nappies at night time. I’ve not thought about potty training them at night yet because when they wake in the mornings their nappies are quite full. It’s fairly common knowledge that children usually take longer to be dry at night than in the day…. [Read More]

Bedroom Decor

When we moved house almost two months ago now I knew that I wanted to put my own stamp on the place. We’re currently renting and have been for almost 10 years now. In previous homes we’ve never really decorated or made a place our home so to speak. Of course we’d given the walls a lick of paint (once!) to freshen it up a bit, but I always had the attitude that I don’t own it so I don’t want to spend my money on it! Now that we have children and a new lovely home – the nicest we’ve ever lived… [Read More]

The interior designer inside of me!

Oh, how I long to own my own home! Nothing big or too fancy! Nothing too posh or too frumpy! I dream of my dream home and this little voice inside of me screams out all these wonderful designs and art that will adorn my walls! A country style kitchen with plenty of storage, but not too much that it looks cluttered.  Space saving units and definitely a breakfast bar.  A dishwasher that doesn’t look like a dishwasher. A washing machine with a tumble dryer and a sink with those taps with hand sensors on so you don’t have to… [Read More]

10 Things Nobody Told You About Being A Parent

Image courtesy of Photostock/freedigitalphotos.net There are two types of people who will try to tell you what to expect when you have your first child. There’s the “you will LOVE it, it’s so much easier than you think it’s going to be”- don’t listen to them. And then there’s the, “DON’T DO IT. YOU WILL NEVER SLEEP AGAIN!- Don’t listen to those either! The truth is, it’s a mixture of the two – it’s both challenging and rewarding. So, here 10 things that people neglect to mention about becoming a parent to help you out a little! It’s ok to ask… [Read More]

Toddler Beds: When is the right time to change?

Image courtesy of greenphile/freedigitalphotos.net I often wonder what age I should help our twins make the transition from cot to toddler bed. I guess the first thing we need to ensure before we do anything is that both girls are sleeping through the night in their own cots. R, is well on her way to achieving this. The only time she will share the bed with us is if she ill. R goes in her cot around 7pm and although she cries out during the night if she has lost her dummy, all I have to do is give her,… [Read More]

Changing from Cot to Big Bed

I have been wondering lately what the right age is to change from a cot to a bed. I know our girls aren’t ready for a bed yet, but I have read so many conflicting things about this. Some people say that by the age of two a child should be in a bed and yet I have read that other people still have their 3 year olds in a cot. I have had a look at online furniture store Clever Clicker and can see that they have fun childrens beds from Thuka. I was wondering if with these types of beds do you… [Read More]

Another sleep update!

I know it wasn’t that long ago since my last sleep post (click here to read) but quite a bit has changed since then so I thought I would share those changes with you! In my last sleep post I mentioned that our girls were having two daytime naps. One at 9am for around 30-60 minutes and then another straight after lunch around 1230pm for 90 minutes. Quite often with the afternoon nap, half an hour after putting the girls down they would wake up so Twin Daddy and I would rock them back to sleep until they had both… [Read More]
