Have you heard of the word, Hygge, before?
I hadn’t either, until the lovely people over at Bed Guru contacted me. Hygge is the danish concept of cosiness, calm and simplicity. Pronounced ‘hue-guh’, this word describes a moment of happiness, warmth or togetherness, and it’s found in the little things in life. Sounds great, doesn’t it?
Bed Guru have taken an interest in the concept of Hygge and how we can embrace this in our homes and bedrooms. As such Bed Guru sent me a lovely Hygge Kit and you can win one too!

Inside the kit you can find a lovely warm blanket, a box of Thorntons chocolates, some sparkly fairy lights, a book all about Hygge and a set of 5 Yankee Christmas Candles. Read on to find out how you can win!

Since receiving my Hygge kit I’ve been thinking about how I can lead a more Hygge lifestyle. A Hygge lifestyle is all about slowing down and finding the time to appreciate the little things. As a mum of twins, I know all about how busy life can be. In addition to looking after my girls, I also work and blog. Sometimes, I have so much to do, that I forget about enjoying the little things in life such as a walk in the park with my girls or even just reading them a bedtime story.
You don’t need to do anything special or buy anything expensive in order to lead a more Hygge lifestyle. It’s simply about the way in which you act and your outlook on life. By slowing down and switching off from the world, you can create some time, even just for yourself, to have some ‘me time’.
Maybe you just want to be alone so that you can snuggle under a blanket with your favourite book, and a cup of hot tea, or maybe you’d like to spend more time with your family. Leading a more Hygge lifestyle is pretty easy. Here are some simple steps you can take to get you started:
Set a date
Choose one day a week to allow yourself time to switch off and do something that you love. Make sure you have an hour or even more, if possible, in which you know you won’t be disturbed. Light some scented candles, grab your box of chocolates and snuggle under a warm blanket with your favourite book or film on the TV.
Have a warm bath, eat good food and do the things you love! Be selfish! Take some time out for yourself because by looking after yourself you can take better care of others.
Bring the outside inside
Ok, so this tip is from Bed Guru, but I love it so much that I just had to share it with you! Flowers can brighten up any home, so why not treat yourself to the most colourful bunch you can find!
Pop them in a beautiful vase somewhere that you’ll be able to see them from all angles. You can even invest in some colourful house plants.
Cook good food
Finding comfort, warmth and cosiness in the bottom of your favourite dish is something that I do all the time! I love my food, and I love good food even more. If, like me, you love cooking, whip out your utensils and make a truly deliciously heart-warming meal. If you’re not a fan of cooking, simply order in your favourite takeaway!
There are so many ways that you can start to lead a more Hygge lifestyle and I’d love to hear your thoughts.
