Sex Education in Schools

It’s been quite some time since I was in school, but one of the things I always remember is our sex education classes.

I wish I could say that the reason why I remember them so well was because they were really informative, but sadly that’s not the case.

The only thing I remember about the sex education classes in my school was being shown a few pictures of male and female body parts with sexually transmitted diseases.

Yeah, that’s not something I want to remember, but it’s almost ingrained into my mind!

Why is sex education in schools so poor?

Are teachers too embarrassed to talk about the important issues such as protection, diseases and the reasons why people have sex?

I guess it can be pretty unnerving standing in front of a class room full of pre-teens talking to them about sex, but it’s so important that we do.

Schools should ensure that these classes are taught well and in a relaxed atmosphere.

All too often, children are too embarrassed to talk about it because they’re being talked to rather than being talked with.

We need to create open discussions on this topic and ensure that every pupil understands all aspects of sex.

Sometimes I wish I was a teacher just so I could go into a classroom and teach children about sex education!

Man, it drives me crazy!

It’s like home economics too!

That was useless when I was in school!

I don’t ever remember being taught how to cook a proper meal. Only ever deserts or a fruit salad!

Why?

Another thing as well that plays on mind is what is the right age for us to be teaching children about sex?

Does today’s society dictate that children are taught at increasingly young ages?

Are we taking childrens’ innocence away by teaching them too young?
