Saving money on your energy bills is a topic that’s widely covered online, in newspapers and magazines, and more commonly on the news.

Now that we approach the colder months, it’s that time of year where more and more people start to think of ways that they can save money on their energy bills.

We used to be with British Gas and their customer service was pretty good. If we ever had a problem or if we needed some advice they were always happy to help, although the wait times to speak someone can be pretty long depending on what time of day you call!

• Call your energy provider. This is one of the most overlooked things. When people think of energy saving they may think of turning the heating on less and wearing more layers, but by calling your energy supplier you may be surprised at how much you can save. They can offer advice, look at your recent bill to see if it’s correct or even suggest an alternative plan. Either way, it’s worth a phone call
• With all of the technology that we have today, a common problem that can leave you with a higher bill is not switching your phone chargers off. By leaving them plugged into the wall, they can still usei up energy. By unplugging them, you may well save yourself a pretty penny!
• My home has a gas fire in the living room and although it looks lovely, and certainly heats the room up quickly, it’s actually an expensive way to keep warm. Switching off your gas fire and using central heating instead is another money saving idea
• Smart Meters are another great alternative and they seem to be getting more and more popular. By having a meter installed you can see exactly how much gas and electricity you’re using. What’s more you can also see how much activities are costing in real money. The added bonus is that a meter will also spell the end of estimated bills, so your bill will always be accurate!
• Have you ever walked passed a house and wondered what’s on their roof? Chances are you’re looking at solar panels. More and more houses have solar panels than ever before. They can help to save you money by using the energy that they generate
