Planning a new bedroom design
When planning a new bedroom design for the newest member of your family can be tough, there’s a lot to think about. And with twins, there’s twice as much to worry about! It’s important to make the most of the space you have, so that there’s still enough room for two to play, that the design lasts them a while, and of course, that you don’t go bonkers trying to organise it all.
A Blank Canvas
A great option when designing a room to suit two is to keep the base colour simple. Whether it’s a plain pastel tone, or simply a whitewashed white, it allows you to add splashes of colour in furniture and accessories, that can be updated later or removed. This also means that later on, your child can choose their own accessories in different colours if they like, meaning everyone’s happy.
The Best Place To Catch Some Zs
Our girls live busy lives, so it’s important that they have somewhere comfy and welcoming to lie at the end of the day. If your twins are still quite young, bunk beds are the perfect option, and space efficient too. Bunk beds take up a lot less room, meaning there’s plenty of room left for play time- which is a vital part of a growing child’s day. For older twins, opt for two separate beds, but try placing them back-to-back or perpendicular to each other with bookcases, drawers or wardrobes in between. Choose a layout that maximises space, as girls need all the dress-up room they can get hold of.
Go Storage Crazy
Double the number of girls, double the number of shoes, teddy bears, and bags… the list could go on! So you’ll need to think practically. Choose cute wicker baskets with coloured ribbon rims that can be slotted under beds or above wardrobes. Colourful stacking boxes are another great option, and are a cool design feature too. Tubular hanging storage is also available that is a great idea for tighter spaces, but perfect for holding all those vital toys that kids need access to!
Every Girl Loves To Accessorize
What girl doesn’t love a few extra touches in their room to give it that personal touch? Get creative and spend some time with your little ones too, and let them design some of their own accessories for their bedroom. Whether it’s some framed wall art, or a homemade jewelry box, they love having something that they made themselves in their room. Away from this, you can also choose some pretty accessories yourself to liven up the room. Think popping pink or plush purple lampshades and cushions, or personalized, ditsy bunting draped above where they rest their heads.
Remember, two happy girls is always better than one, so sit down with your girls and see if they want to have the same design as each other. If they’re young you’ll just have to choose something that you think they’ll grow into. Choosing a simple base colour means that, they can both be kept happy when it comes to spotty duvet covers… or maybe stripes. Either way, contrasts in colours and patterns can work well; so don’t be afraid to let them have their own say in the design of their bedroom.
