Moving from Blogger to WordPress

I started blogging back in 2012. When I decided that I wanted to start blogging, I didn’t really do much research. I just typed ‘start a blog’ into Google one day and the ‘Blogger’ platform came up at the top of the list so that’s the one I chose to go with.

Blogger was easy to use and didn’t require much technical knowledge. I dabbled into creating my own blog design, header, badge and social media icons using Pic Monkey, over the years, I got better at this.

I learnt about HTML, follow and no-follow links, back links and SEO, but the one thing that scared me more than anything was WordPress.

When my husband, Nigel, started blogging in 2014, he also started on blogger. Mainly because I was on blogger. However, over the following years, Nigel, mentioned transferring over to WordPress a number of times.

I’d always said that I didn’t see the point. Blogger works, it’s easy to use etc, so why change? However, I knew that at some point it was probably the right move to make.

WordPress allows for better customisation and by going self-hosted it meant that we would own our content. Something which you don’t have when you’re on Blogger, as it’s owned by Google.

After asking around in lots of blogging groups, lots of people mentioned Zoe. A blogger herself at Mama Geek, Zoe also has her own web design business.

Zoe was really helpful and explained everything so well! She was there late at night and early in the morning, when I was having a panic or if I had questions about anything.

Zoe moved both myself and my husband’s blog over from Blogger to WordPress. It was painless, easy and I now love WordPress!

If you’re thinking of making the move, I’d say do it! It’s nowhere near as scary as I thought it was going to be! It really was easy! Well, easy for me as I didn’t have to do anything, except trust Zoe and her amazing skills! Zoe helped with everything from moving over, answering my questions about domains and hosting, as well as fiddly changes I wanted to make, and giving me a quick intro to plug-ins!

With my blog now being on WordPress, I knew that I wanted a new blog design and that’s where Helen from Ellie Illustrates came to my rescue!

I emailed her and she talked me through everything she offered. I gave her an idea of what I wanted and she set to work on her magic!
