There comes a time when all families feel like they’re running out of room. Another mouth to feed often means that more space needs to be found. You have several options, but they all involve big changes and big spend. So how are you going to fit everybody in?
Making It Bigger
Making your home bigger in size is one way to fit people in on the inside. Of course, that could shrink your garden. This means there is less space to play out there as the kids get older. Extensions are quite common these days, although it is usually easier to extend just the ground floor. This will create a bigger living space, and you may be able to squeeze an extra playroom out of it.
Not many homes have a basement that can be converted, but plenty have loft space. If this isn’t pitched high enough, the cost of a conversion could be too high to bother with. You might be able to utilise quite a bit of the space up there, and it’s possible this could be converted into another bedroom and bathroom. Best of all, it won’t steal much, if any, of the rest of your property.
Make A Move
Moving house is a huge upheaval, and kids don’t always react well to it. One way to make sure you’re getting exactly what you all need is to build your own home. This means you can place it where you want, design the living space to suit your lifestyle, and create enough bedrooms for everyone. Of course, buying another house that is in your neighbourhood could be a viable option. There will always be things you’re not so keen on. After all, nobody else’s house is going to be perfect for your family. You may have to make a few adjustments or sacrifice one or two of your preferences. Still, this could be worth doing if it buys you the extra rooms and square footage that you need.
Stick With It
Over the years, we become very fond of our family homes. They are full of wonderful memories of incredible moments with our kids. It can be heart-wrenching to have to let go of that. Aside from the sentiment, there isn’t always the budget to make a big move. For now, you may have to tighten the purse strings and make do with what you’ve got.
Have a big clear out. Anything you don’t need should go. You can sell it or gift it to charitable causes. The aim is to make enough space to allow your family to grow comfortably. Sure, the kids may need to share a room still, but at least you can make space for another closet or cupboard for their toys. You might also be able to change the layout of rooms to give a little more space for another bed. What would you do?
