London Marathon 2019: Another Fundraising Update

Fundraising

It’s been just over a month since my last fundraising update so I thought it was time to write another update.

In my last post I shared with you how I’d managed to raise £976.50 towards my £1,600 target for WellChild, the national charity for sick children.

Since my last update I have managed to break through the £1,000 mark! I have now raised a total of £1,242.42! That’s 77% of my target, and means I have just £357.58 to go!

So here’s how I managed to raise more money:

£5.14 – Online donations

£4.00 – Selling things

£256.78 – Supermarket & Garden Centre Bucket Collection

I have another supermarket collection booked in for September, and hopefully another for early next year. I’m hoping these two will help my achieve my target, but I also have a raffle planned too!

If you can help, please donate online here.

Training

In terms of training for the London Marathon, it’s not been going well lately. I haven’t run for around three weeks due to injury. I’m due to run the Cardiff Half Marathon on October 7th, so my training so far has really been for that, but it does all count towards my London Marathon training too.

I’ve seen a soft tissue therapist twice now who confirmed Piriformis Syndrome. Whilst this isn’t great news, it is good that I now know what’s causing the pain I’ve been having. My therapist has given me a set of stretches to do three times a day, and with regular sports massages, I’m really hoping to be back up and running soon!

Sponsors

As usual in these update posts I mention that I have two wonderful sponsors, Rhiwbina Dental and Four Walls Online.

I thought I’d give you some more information about them in this post.

Four Walls Online have over 50 years unrivalled experience across the full spectrum of the property market in Cardiff and the surrounding areas. They know that local landlords, developers and homeowners are looking for, and they cater for all needs, budgets and lifestyles.

Combining cutting-edge sales and lettings technology with their friendly team of experts based at their Cardiff office on Newport Road, they offer all the value of an online estate agency with the professionalism and personal touch of the more traditional approach.

They are Rent Smart Wales ARLA, NAEA, and ALMA accredited, adhering to the very highest standards in the industry whilst driving forward best practice, particularly in the online property market. Their team comprises fully qualified property professionals who are committed to delivering outstanding customer service.

Rhiwbina Dental was established over 40 years ago. Their practise is situated in Rhiwbina Village, Cardiff, and the practise was taken over by Nick Claydon in 1997 and remains an integral part of Rhiwbina village life.

They also have another practise called Rhiwbina Dental at the Pines. This was established in 2010 and serves private patients in gorgeous surroundings. Having visited the practise, I have to agree! The surroundings are beautiful, as is the building itself.

The Pines is a rare Georgian gem situated alongside the ancient white church in Whitchurch. The interior of The Pines has been carefully designed to stimulate the senses with intriguing works of art and sculptures designed to inspire and delight.

  1. Congratulations on the fundraising, I’m sure you will meet your target! I’m very impressed with you takin on a marathon, I didn’t even manage to run the full 14k of the City2Surf last weekend. Good luck! #ThatFridayLinky

  2. Good luck in the marathon. It’s good to be training so early and have the races in between now and the marathon to get up to speed with it (so to speak!).

I do always wonder why people donate pounds and pence, such as £10.42. Never really understood that! The more the merrier though!

  3. Great work on getting those corporate sponsors Emily. I think fundraising for the marathon is going to be a bigger challenge than running in the marathon isn’t it??? Good to know you’ve had the cause of pain identified too. Hope the therapy works for you. Thanks for hosting #thatfridaylinky

  4. Firstly, well done on the fundraising – you are doing amazingly well.
As for the physical training… injuries can be so frustrating but it’s vital you don’t rush back too soon and allow your body to heal. Take it from someone who’s worn that t-shirt far too often!

  5. Well done on all the money raised so far.
Those bucket collections at the supermarkets are a great way of upping the fundraising pot.
I’ve helped on a few for the boys different sports clubs.

Good luck with the rest of the fundraising and the event itself.
