When I started running, I had no idea how much of a positive effect it would have on my life.
Not only have I lost weight, I’ve also had a complete lifestyle change. I eat better. I feel more energised, motivated and most importantly of all, I feel happier.
Little did I know when I started running in March last year, that I would end up completing my first half marathon!
Who knows. Maybe one day, I’ll pluck up the courage to run a full marathon!
Until then, however, I’m happy running around my neighbourhood, plotting new routes and entering a number of local race events throughout the year.
Now as the title of this post suggests, I do have some exciting news to share with you. A good while ago, I was browsing through my Facebook feed as normal, when something caught my eye.
It was a Facebook post by Brecon Carreg. That’s right, the Welsh mineral water company. It was a post about applying for a place in Team Brecon Carreg.
By applying for a place in the team, I had the chance of winning entry to a number of races across Wales, along with lots of support and encouragement along the way, from both Brecon Carreg and fellow runners.
As someone who loves to run, I quickly saved the link so that I could apply later that day. When I found a few spare moments, I excitedly completed the application form and made a note of the winners announcement date on my calendar!
On February 24th I woke up to an email congratulating and welcoming me to Team Brecon Carreg! My application had been successful!
In fact, Brecon Carreg received so many applications from people across Wales that they decided to create two teams this year – one in North Wales and one in South.
I’m part of the South Wales Team along with these awesome people pictured below.

So what exactly does it mean to be part of #TeamBreconCarreg?
Well, in addition to free entry into three races, we’ll also be raising money for Wales Air Ambulance. Brecon Carreg will be tracking our miles in training and in events, and, for every mile that we run, they’ll be donating £1 to Wales Air Ambulance.
My chosen events as part of Team Brecon Carreg are:
Brecon Carreg Cardiff Bay Run (10k) on Sunday 25th March
5k Pontypridd Bounce Run on 8th July
Cardiff 10k on 2nd September.
In addition to these events, I’ll also be running the Cardiff Half Marathon again this year.

I’ll be sure to keep you all updated over the coming months about our progress, but until then keep an eye on your social channels for updates and follow the #TeamBreconCarreg hashtag to see how we are getting on.

Amazing news – congratulations! I took up running (or jogging really, as I’m not sure my speed should be called running) quite recently. I hated it at first. Then tolerated it. Now really quite like it. I just need to get my running mojo back after a spate of snow and a series of kids’ illnesses. Hopefully one day, I’ll run a race too! Just to to find my hidden mojo first! #thatfridaylinky

Congratulations on being part of TeamBrecon Carreg! I wish I knew about this sooner as my husband is a runner- he does half, full and ultra marathons- and would have loved to be part of the team. We live in Mid Wales though so not sure which team he’d be in! I hope you enjoy racing as much as he does- good luck!
