All children go through phases. I know that, but why do I find this one particularly hurtful? We’ve had phases which involve not wanting to eat certain foods, not wanting to sleep, not wanting to sit in the highchair, not wanting to sit in the pushchair, the list is endless! This current phase we are going through though is the one that I will always remember!
When Twin Daddy is at work and I’m looking after the girls on my own everything is fine. They both want cuddles from me and they both want to play with me. When I’m in work and Twin Daddy is looking after the girls on his own everything is fine. They both want cuddles from Daddy and they both want to play with Daddy. They are both well behaved and remain in relatively good spirits when in this one-on-one parent situation.
But wait…
When Twin Mummy and Twin Daddy join forces things change!
During the day things aren’t too bad but there are definitely times that R only wants me and M only wants Daddy. This used to be the other way around, but somehow has changed. If R is upset or tired, she’ll come to me and if Twin Daddy even attempts to hold or cuddle R an outburst of crying will occur. This is the same for M if I dare try to comfort her when Twin Daddy is home.
I know it’s a phase. I know they’ll grow out of it, but when?! At times it appears M wants anyone as long as it isn’t me. I have silly ideas and visions that when they’re older this will still be the case and I don’t want that. I want both R and M to come to both me and their Daddy. We both spend an equal amount of time with the girls, although admittedly we have somehow got into the habit of Twin Daddy always giving M her bedtime bottle and putting her to bed and I always give R her bedtime bottle and put her to bed. Maybe this has been a contributory factor to this phase.
Should we swap babies when it comes to bedtime?
I’ve thought about, but R sleeps so well at the moment and has done so for a good few months now. Would swapping hinder this? Maybe we just need to be brave and go for it! I don’t know!
What do you think?
Have you experienced something similar? I would love to hear from you.
