Hobbycraft Christmas Advent Truck – A Crafty Review!
I love being creative and making things. When I was younger I made a beautiful pink, wooden jewellery box in school. I made a zig-zag lid and decorated it with glitter and blue and yellow flowers!
When Hobbycraft sent me this festive advent truck calendar I couldn’t wait to get started on giving it a make-over! They also have a great range of other advent calendars you can decorate.
It has 12 doors on either side making a total of 24 for every day in the run up to Christmas. Each door also has a small round handle on.
Santa is sat at the front of the truck with his hands on the steering wheel ready to embark on his long journey to deliver all the presents to the good girls and boys!
To help me decorate this truck I was sent one pot of red acrylic paint, one pot of green acrylic paint and some felt numbers for the doors. I was also sent some wooden stars which I’ll use to make decorations for our Christmas tree.
I also bought myself some white, black and gold acrylic paint plus some glue to stick the felt numbers on with. This came to around £5.
Most of the advent trucks that I’ve seen on Pinterest and around the internet have a red body, but I wanted to do mine green so that the red felt letters would stand out.
To start with I gave the back of the truck (the part with the doors on) two coats of green paint. One coat wasn’t enough as I wanted the colour to bright and bold. I painted over the doors, but made sure that I left them open so that the paint could dry. I didn’t paint inside the doors though. Don’t worry if you get green paint on the handles as they can easily painted over.
Once the green paint had dried I painted the handles gold then moved onto to paint the front of the truck red. Again, I gave this two coats.
I used a nail art brush to paint Santa. I gave him a red and white hat, beard and pink skin by mixing a little red and white paint together. When his face had dried I painted on some eyes.
For the wheels I painted the outer edge black and the inside circle gold.
As I had some paint left over I also decided to paint the bottom of the truck red.
When the whole truck was dry, I used some white PVA glue to fix on the felt numbers.
I’m pretty pleased with the finished result! What do you think?
