Finger Puppet Theatre
I’m a mum to three year old girls with very different personalities.
M is a proper girly girl. She loves Barbie, princesses, dolls, dancing and singing.
R is a bit of a tomboy and loves to play football and run around in the garden.
One thing that they both have in common though is their love of crafts! Whether it’s getting messy with paint to make a colourful picture or creating collages with glue and feathers, stickers, tissue paper and buttons, it’s one thing that they both enjoy doing together.
They both love using their imaginations to make up imaginary scenarios and stories, R in particular. She’ll pick up a book and make up a story just from looking at the pictures.
I was recently a bundle of craft goodies including felt, glue, googly eyes and more, as well as a theatre toy. We were given the challenge of creating our very own finger puppets.
I took my inspiration from Simple Crafts: A Guide for Beginners, which is an illustrated graphic guide featuring six simple craft tutorials that are easy to make, inexpensive and use little specialist equipment – making them ideal to create when you’re away on holiday as well as whilst at home!
One of the crafts included was for a penguin finger puppet made from felt that can be either stitched or glued, making it an ideal craft for the whole family to get involved in. The great thing with these finger puppets is that the fun doesn’t stop once you’ve made them. They can be used for years to come as they also make brilliant toys and your children can really let their imaginations run wild creating fun finger puppet shows!
I decided to make a Cinderella finger puppet and a prince. Both girls enjoy watching DVDs with Cinderella being a favourite at the moment so I thought the girls would enjoy it!
I drew out a template on paper of what I wanted the Cinderella and Prince finger puppet to look like and then I proceeded to cut out all of the different parts using felt.
Rather than using glue, I decided I would sew the finger puppets together so that they lasted a bit longer. It was really easy to make and using some felt pens I drew on some eyes and a smiley mouth.

As you can see both R and M really enjoyed playing with them and their new puppet theatre!

This is lovely, I need to make an effort to do crafts with my little man as he grows up! Great job, mine would look awful I bet! #bestandworst
